Obituary: W. Michael Roney, 68, of Salem

The obituary for W. Michael Roney, 68, of Salem.

Mr. W. Michael Roney, age 68, of Salem, formerly of Waltham, passed away early Monday morning at Salem Hospital due to complications of Parkinson's disease surrounded by his loving family.

He was the husband of Nancy (Kenney) Roney, with whom he shared 30 years of marriage. 

Mike was born in Salem and raised in Danvers, he was the son of the late George and Claire (Gillespie) Roney. He was a graduate of Bishop Fenwick High School, the College of the Holy Cross before obtaining an MBA at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Prior to retiring in 2007, Mike worked as a cost accountant for Airitec Corporation and Malden Mills.

Mike had a life-long passion for railroads and enjoyed photographing and traveling by train in the US and Europe. Mike was one of the founding members of Mystic Valley Railway Society and was a volunteer for many years.

Mike was a long time communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, Salem. 

In addition to his loving wife, Mike is survived by his son Joseph G. Roney of Salem and a daughter Catherine Roney Garcia and her husband Gerson Garcia of Los Angeles, CA. He is also survived by a niece Brooke Kenney and a nephew Jason Obey and a cousin, Margaret M. (Roney) Marik of Phillips, Wisconsin.. 

Mike's Funeral will be from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn Saturday at 11 AM. His Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Salem at 12:00 noon. Visiting Hours will be Friday from 4-8-PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Care Hospice, 210 Market St. Lynn, MA 01901 or St. Vincent dePaul at Immaculate Conceptions Church, 15 Hawthorne Blvd., Salem, MA 01970.
