Obituary: Jeanne (Osborn) Russell, 90, Formerly of Salem

The obituary for Jeanne O. Russell, 90, formerly of Salem.

Mrs. Jeanne Russell, 90, formerly of Salem and Peabody, loving wife of the late Herbert Russell, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014 in the Soldier’s Home, Chelsea surrounded by her family. 

Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Phillips and Elizabeth (Winchester) Osborn.  Raised and educated in Peabody, she was a graduate of Peabody High School.

An honorably discharged veteran, Jeanne was a member of the Women’s Army Corps and proudly served her country as a medical corpsman during World War II, receiving several medals and commendations for her brave service.

Mrs. Russell began her career in the Accounting Department of the former New England Telephone Company where she worked for over 43 years until her retirement in 1990.

Jeanne was a long-time devoted member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Salem and a member of the American Legion of Danvers, Salem and Wolfboro, NH.  She was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed playing a good game of Bingo.  Jeanne was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family.

Surviving her is her daughter Evelyn Fessenden and her husband David of Marblehead; two granddaughters, Kate Swanson and her husband Erik of Marblehead and Kristi Fessenden of Marblehead; two great-grandsons, Paxton and Keegan Swsanson and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Frederick Osborn and Elizabeth Moore.

Arrangements: Her graveside service will be held in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Salem on Monday at 1:30 pm.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited to meet at the front gate of the cemetery.  As requested there will be no visiting hours.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jeanne’s memory to the Recreational Fund, Chelsea Soldier’s Home, 91 Crest Ave., Chelsea, MA 02150.  To leave a condolence please visitwww.gonetfuneralhome.com.  Assisting the family with the arrangements is the David H.
