OBITUARY: Claudia Safchuk, 91, of Salem

Here is the obituary for Claudia (Pecevich) Safchuk, 91, of Salem.


Claudia (Pecevich) Safchuk, 91, wife of Protodeacon Basil Safchuk, of Peabody, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 14, 2014 at the Pilgrim Rehabilitation Center, Peabody, following a short illness.

Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Pecevich) Pecevich. She was a resident of Peabody for over 50 years

Claudia was a lifelong and active member of the St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Salem, where she taught Sunday School for 30 years.

Besides her husband, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Very Rev. Gregory and Alexandra Safchuk of Bethesda, MD, three grandchildren, Nathaniel and his wife Sherry Safchuk, Benjamin Safchuk, Alexander Safchuk and several nephews and nieces including Sandra Lillo, who was her care giver for many years.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a service at 10 am at the St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Salem. Visiting hours are Thursday at the funeral home from 5 to 8 pm with a Panikhida Service at 7 pm. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial is in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
