Dog of the Day Febuary 25th: Vinny

Vinny needs a fur-ever home!!!

"Hi, my name is Vinny and I shouldn't be here. Yes, I said shouldn't. An angel named Jenna found me on a 'to be euthanized' list and inquired as to why that was. The answer she received was that I was "old" and had "heartworm." I was in Georgia in an area where dogs like me just aren't lucky enough to be chosen for rescue. That didn't stop Jenna though. She made sure I was pulled from that horrible list and paid for my heartworm treatment herself. She also got in touch with a wonderful rescue group who agreed to pick me up and hold on to me during my treatments. I was given my shots and a second chance and I have Jenna to thank. I'm here now at the Northeast Animal Shelter and I have a chance to belong to a family again. I'm healthy and ready to learn. I do have to work on my manners a bit, you see... no one ever took the time to teach me things. I do jump up and I'm very strong. I am housebroken though and I do like to cuddle, after I'm tired out of course. I can be mouthy, so I'd be best without young children. A strong, firm, but loving adult home would be what is best for me. Look how far I have come. Please don't give up on me now."

From the Shelter Staff: The more we learn about Vinny, the more sad his story becomes. Poor Vinny never lived in a home. He lived outdoors in a fenced yard and hopefully at least had a dog house. He was fed outdoors and was never taught sit, stay or even shake. Vinny grew up without knowing what love was. Vinny doesn't differentiate between indoors and out. He doesn't know what living in a home is like. He is going to need a lot of patience and a lot of training to know what it means to be a dog that someone loves. We are working with Vinny and we have a trainer meeting with us this Tuesday, February 26th to help us begin to teach Vinny what it means to be a good boy. Right now Vinny is just an inquisitive 10 week old puppy in a 7 year old dogs body. Imagine spending seven years without having anyone to learn from? It is sad, and we hope we can help Vinny learn to love and trust a family.

Vinny is a 7-year-old neutered male Shepherd Hound Mix. He weighs 74 lbs.
