5th Gourmet Gala Raised $65,000 for North Shore Cancer WALK

The fifth annual Gourmet Gala: Wining and Dining for a Cause (formerly Taste of the North Shore) was held on Friday, March 28 at Acura of Peabody. The event, a fundraiser for the North Shore Cancer WALK/RUN, was a great success, raising more than $65,000 to help provide high quality care to cancer patients at North Shore Medical Center in Salem and the Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center in Danvers.

We owe much of our success to the generosity of local restaurants that provided delicious food for the evening, including: 5 Corners Kitchen, Marblehead; 9 Elm American Bistro, Danvers; 62 Restaurant & Wine Bar, Salem; The Blue Ox, Lynn; Cakes for Occasions, Danvers; Colonial Hall at Rockafellas, Salem; Creative Catering, Beverly; Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse, Lynnfield; Finz Seafood & Grill, Salem; Henry’s Market, Beverly; Legal C Bar, Lynnfield; Opus, Salem; Pellana Prime Steakhouse, Peabody; Salem Waterfront Hotel & Marina; Tavern in the Square, Salem; The Topsfield Bakeshop; Treadwell’s World Famous Ice Cream, Peabody; Turner’s Seafood, Salem and The Whoo(pie) Wagon, Topsfield.

We are also extremely grateful to all of the businesses that donated items for our silent and live auctions.  Billy Costa of Kiss 108’s Matty in the Morning show and NESN’s Dining Playbook, once again served as auctioneer for the event, and was tremendously successful in helping to raise funds for the evening. Mr. Costa also generously donated prizes providing winners with a chance to appear on Dining Playbook.

Thanks to the 2014 Steering Committee of the North Shore Cancer WALK/RUN, including 2014 WALK Co-chairs Dr. Karen Krag, one of the oncologists at the Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center, and Jerry Tucker of Wellington Management; Joel Avery of Acura of Peabody; Elisabeth Avila and Lisa Carbone of Eastern Bank, Debbie Cole of Great Brewers, JoAnn Gillette, of North Shore 104.9, Daniella Larosa of Pellana, Kevin Noyes of Peoples United Bank, Jason Sevinor of Designer Bath, Ed Soul of Beverly Athletic Club, Leigh Stack of Re/Max Advantage, and Jude Toner of Sagan Realtors.

Additionally, special thanks are in order to our own Joel Schwartz, M.D., Director of Oncology Services and Jim McIntyre, M.D., Chief of Radiation Oncology, both of the Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center, for their tireless dedication not only to their patients but also to our outreach and fundraising efforts.

The Gourmet Gala directly supports the North Shore Cancer WALK/RUN. All proceeds will help fund the construction of a new inpatient oncology unit at NSMC Salem Hospital as well as supplement wellness programs and services at the Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center. Our facilities, services and staff together provide outstanding cancer care to our community and we are so grateful to all those who contribute, enabling us to continue to do so each year.

The North Shore Cancer WALK will be held rain or shine on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Salem Willows Park. Since 1991, the WALK has raised more than $19 million. To register or donate, please visit www.northshorecancerwalk.org.

With warm gratitude,
Robert Norton, President & CEO
