Scary Mary and the Audio Corsette Launch Party

Scary Mary and the Audio Corsette; One local mans labor of love.

Alot of people have asked what exactly Scary Mary is. Answering that question is not easy. Scary mary is a labor of love for local small business owner and entrepeneur Kevin Lettorneau. A concept that started years ago with Kevin's desire to bring an Elvira type character to the current generation. After almost 7 years in the making his concept is coming to life this Halloween season with the help of a group of young, talented artists that range from musicians to writers to producers. As the website scarymarylives.com describes:

"25 years ago, on the eve of her eighteenth birthday, Mary, a hair metal rocker chick, fell victim to a prank gone wrong resulting in her soul being trapped in an audio casette tape lost over time. This Halloween season, a new local supergroup, Audio Corsette will resurrect her as part of an R-rated, 80′s rock horror experience featuring a live show with short horror films from all over the country. Created and directed by Kevin Letourneau and written by Gregory Glenn, ‘Scary Mary and the Audio Corsette’ stars Jacyn Tremblay (JADA), Peter Tentindo (Britannica), Aaron Katz and Callie Lipton (The Dejas)."

But this project is so much more than that. This is an entirely original R rated experience, a very challenging and risky venture in todays economy and the g/pg rated Halloween season in Salem. There have been AMPLE challenges with production, funding and support however the passion behind this project has caused it to march forward and become one of the most highly proffesional, unique ideas to come to fruition in Salem in a very long time.

This past weekend was the first Official performance of Scary Mary and the Audio Corsette at Finz Seafood and Grill and the publics first chance to hear the band and get little teasers about the three midnight shows that will be happening at Cinema Salem for the next three Saturdays leading up to Halloween (Oct. 13th, 20th and 27th at midnight) A very solid crowd was witness to one man's vision to create something original, fun and geared towards an adult crowd.

This is a perfect example of a project that needs support. Something Salem can say is it's own. Instead of famous people coming to Salem(Which is obviously fantastic) This is an attempt to make something famous come out of Salem. It is well known that the most famous thing to come out of Salem was the the witch trials, however there are plenty of people working on projects and attempting to make a new history for Salem which in the long run will benefit this historic amazing city for generations to come.

Get involved with local arts, support local small businesses, be good neighbors.(and yes, try to get along with the tourists.) Salem has started to take the corner to being the ultimate destination on the North Shore with a myriad of fantastic shops, restaurants, businesses, artist and more. The more high quality programs we support locally the better.
