EAT THIS! Rockin The Casbah with Savory Moroccan Meat Stuffed Pastries!

Exotic spiced savory meat stuffed pastries

I will be traveling with some friends to Spain and then
Morrocco in December so I am OBSESED with Moroccan food as of late. I recently
visited an amazing eatery in Malden called “Morroccan Hospitality Resturant”
and enjoyed these appetizers called “cigars”. They are actually Briouats
. Briouats are Moroccan pastries which are stuffed with
a variety of fillings and then typically fried. The typical recipe features
ground meat enclosed in crisp, paper-thin Moroccan pastry called warqa.  Kefta(meat) briouats are usually served
as a finger food or appetizer, but they can also be served as an entrée. The
filling is mildly seasoned with exotic spices like saffron, ginger ,cinnamon, paprika
and cumin!! Creating the ultimate in savory sweet flavors!! In my recipe I am
going to substitute the beef with ground turkey breast to make it a little
healthier and they will also be baked but you can fry them if you are so
inclined. We will also be adding some potatoes and extra spices to bring up the
heat factor. We will be using readily available Phyllo dough for the wrapper.

I’m serving this super easy dish with a beautiful
traditional Moroccan salad of cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, parsley, lemon ,
olive oil,  cumin and sea salt! This is a
refreshingly different dinner.  Something
really fun to try is Moroccan tea. You simply take green tea and brew it with a
bunch of muddled fresh mint and a lot of honey! It is sweet and incredibly
addictive! I hope you enjoy this week’s recipe…I have been eating this ALL
WEEK!!!
