EAT THIS! Kid's Edition Stromboli's by the Shore (baked and rolled Italian sandwiches to go!)

Italian meats and cheese's rolled and baked in Italian dough for a easy lunch on the beach to go!!

I don’t want to get to ahead of myself, but, IT’S TIME TO BEACH IT!!! I know most of you will be taking advantage of the weather this weekend and heading out to your local body of water. So this week we will be making Family Friendly STROMBOLI’S!!

One of my favorite foods to pack for the beach
are STROMBOLIS!! A Stromboli is a warm Italian sandwich made up of Italian bread dough stuffed with cheeses, Italian meats , sometimes a light pesto or tomato sauce and pretty much anything you want. It is similar to a calzone, only this is rolled instead of just folded over. It is easily assembled and in my
opinion hands down one of the tastiest alternatives to peanut butter and jelly.
They can be prepared the night before , pack up quite easily and are ready to slice and serve whenever hunger strikes or you can get the kids out of the water long enough to eat.

What is great about these are they are one of
those foods that are perfect for children because you can adjust the
ingredients to suit  their  tastes and they can also be churched up and
served alongside beautiful mixed green and a vinaigrette for a fun get together
with friends with just a simple swap of some ingredients! If you have tweens or
teenagers I guarantee these will be a huge hit!!! You can do ground beef and
cheese with peppers and onions or do a light layer of sauce with pepperoni and
cheese for a pizza taste. I am going to give you the very basic preparation, it
is more of an authentic version of a Stromboli….but let your inspiration and
requests from your family be your guide! You can use any type of dough you
want. I like to use Italian bread dough for this particular preparation but
feel free to use pizza dough or for something a bit more grown up a nice French
bread dough, whatever your preference! (You can buy dough from your local baker,
make it yourself, or buy at your supermarket)

*This recipe makes two Stromboli’s. You can bake both if you have a 6 or more
people..or freeze one for another day then thaw and bake in oven. I recommend
bringing along some grapes and homemade iced tea.

INGREDIENTS

Refrigerated
bread dough (enough for two loafs)

1/4 lb

  thinly sliced genoa salami

1/4 lb

thinly sliced proscuitto

1/4 lb

thinly sliced pepperoni

1/4 lb

thinly sliced provolone

1 c

shredded whole milk mozzerella

¼ lb freshly grated parmesan

garlic(minced)

butter ½ stick

Directions

Roll out each dough

Divide the meat and cheese
ingredients in half, layer in the exact order listed.

Roll up jellyroll style, starting
with the long side, and place seam side down on a greased cookie sheet . Make
sure the ends are sealed, by pinching closed.

Bake in a 375 degree oven for
approximately 25 to 30 minutes, until golden brown. Wrap in foil and slice when
ready.(if making the night before just refrigerate)

While the Strombolis are baking,
melt 1/2 stick of butter. Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic and

Brush the loaves with the garlic
mixture as soon as the loaves come out of the oven. Let cool. This can be
served warm or wrap in tin foil for the next day.
