Pitch In: Salem Woods Trail Repair Project Saturday

The Friends of Salem Woods need your help to rebuild the trailhead to Salem Woods.

Local residents are invited to help rebuild the trailhead to Salem Woods this weekend.

According to an announcement posted by Nancy Gilberg earlier this week, the trail entrance at Olde Salem Greens' parking lot is eroded from rain runoff, making it steep and treacherous.

Repair work will include building stone water breaks to divert rainwater to the side, and filling the spaces between breaks with soil - so that when complete, the trail's grade will be gentle and safe.

The Friends of Salem Woods have already begun the project over the past weeks, and will complete it on Saturday, Nov. 9 with a rain date of Nov. 10.

"Most of the work will be shoveling dirt into wheelbarrows, bringing it a short distance to the trail, and raking it into place," according to the announcement.

People interested in pitching in should RSVP to Chris Burke at burkechrisb@aol.com. He can also be reached at (978) 210-9937.
