Local Woman Diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer Works to Help Others

One Salem woman is in "the fight of her life," and she's making time to help others along the way.

Amy Vaughn, 37, had returned from her honeymoon in 2011 when she was diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas, and by May of this year, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, according to Michele Wood of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

"Having cancer, particularly this deadly cancer, has not stopped Amy from living life," according to Wood.

On Aug. 26, with her team of over 30, McV's Floppy Pancreatics, Vaughn and her supporters participated in PurpleStride Boston 2012, a 5K walk to benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at UMass Boston, Wood said.

Wood said Amy's team has raised over $12,000 and donations are still being accepted (click here to donate).

"I was thrilled and honored to meet her in person at the walk on Sunday, and was greeted by a woman who was as upbeat and determined as can be," Wood said of Vaughn. "Amy is truly an inspiration to all of us who are affected by this disease."
