The Theatre of Words and Music presents: “Poetry/Jazz and Rock/Fiction”

 Salem, MA – The Theatre of Words and Music returns this
December with “Poetry/Jazz and Rock/Fiction” at the Wormhole Gallery in Salem,
MA. As part of our event series, Mariya Deykute and Leo Loginov-Katz will
perform a poetry/jazz fusion, and David Wildman will contribute a rock/fiction
fusion to the evening. As always, the event will feature an open mic segment
during which local artists/writers/musicians can share any manner of work.



 Mariya Deykute
started writing in Puschino, Russia. Since then she's lived in Montreal,
Jerusalem, St. Petersburg and New Mexico, and wrote everywhere to varying
success. She now teaches at UMass Boston and performs with the Poetry &
Jazz Salon. Her poems have appeared in Other Rooms Press, Meat for Tea,
Grasslimb, Front Porch, Monarch Review and Inkspill.



Leo Loginov-Katz, born in Saratov, Russia, has been playing piano and improvising
since age 4. In recent years he's improvised, taught and directed theater shows
at the Rosetta LeNoir Musical Theatre Academy (AMAS), The New Music Across
America Festival, The Actors Studio, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Public Radio
International, The Knitting Factory, NYTV, The Ringling Bros. Barnum &
Bailey Clown College, and collaborated with legendary musicians and artists
from all over the world.



 David Wildman is a longtime Boston Globe music/arts
columnist and film writer. He’s also contributed to the Boston Phoenix, Boston
Magazine, Timeout Boston, New York and Tokyo, served as arts editor of The
Weekly Dig and was a member of the Boston Society of Film Critics. His debut
novel, “The Book of Enemy” was read by Chuck Palahniuk who declared it
“wild-ass awesome!” Wildman is currently working on his third novel, “The Rock
and Roll Virus.” He teaches guitar, piano and voice, runs a recording fantasy
camp for teens called Signed! and fronts the alt rock band Darktown.

 The Theatre of Words and Music seeks to create community
amongst literary, performance and visual arts, and between artists and
audience. It is a venue to celebrate the imagination and each other. “Poetry/Jazz
and Rock/Fiction” will be presented on December 14th at 7 pm at the
Wormhole Gallery, 231 Washington Street, Salem, MA 01970. Admission is $7/$5
