The 3rd concert of 2014 Salem Philharmonic Orchestra Winter Concert Series


The third concert of the 110th season The Salem Philharmonic Orchestra’s Winter Concert series will be held Sunday, January 26th, at Salem High School Auditorium, 77 Willson Street.  All of the Winter Series concerts are free to the public and handicap accessible. Please note that this year’s concerts will begin at 3:00PM, a half-hour earlier than in previous years.

Sunday’s concert will feature soprano soloist Rebecca Hains. Ms. Hains is a versatile performer of opera, operetta, oratorio, and musical theater. Past performances include Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance at the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival in England and "Into the West" from the film score to The Lord of the Rings with Longwood Symphony Orchestra at New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall.
 
She was a semifinalist in the William C. Byrd Young Artist Competition for vocalists and is an alumna of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus. She frequently appears as a soloist in regional concerts, including the concert series of Longwood Opera, Mass Theatrica, the New England Gilbert and Sullivan Society, New England Light Opera, and Worcester Opera Works.

Among the program selections included will be: Overture to the Pirates of Penzance by Sullivan, Polovetsyan Dances by Borodin, Selections from Brigadoon by Lerner and Lowe, Pizzacati Polka by Straus and The Syncopated Clock by Anderson.

Rebecca Hains will be featured on Willow Song by Moore, Selections from Carmina Burana by Orff, Alleluia (from Exsultate Jubilate) by Mozart and Poor Wandering One! form The Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan.

Conducting will be Alan Hawryluk, conductor of the orchestra for the past 44 years.
