The 2014 Salem Philharmonic Orchestra Winter Concert Series

The new year of 2014 ushers in the 110th season of one of Salem’s oldest cultural traditions, The Salem Philharmonic Orchestra’s Winter Concert series. Each concert will be held at Salem High School Auditorium, 77 Willson Street on Sundays in January and February  – the dates are Jan. 5th, Jan. 12th, Jan. 26th and Feb. 2nd.  As always, the concerts are free to the public and are handicap accessible. It should be noted, however, that all of this year’s concerts will begin at 3:00PM, a half-hour earlier than in previous years.

As always, the concerts will feature diverse programs played by a 45 piece orchestra of talented professional musicians, along with some selected amateurs, and a guest soloist, featured at each concert. The second concert, Jan. 12th, also features the Salem High School Symphony Orchestra, where student players perform a generous segment of music. Conducting this exciting schedule of performances will be Alan Hawryluk, conductor of the orchestra for the past 49 years.

On January 5th, soloists featured will be baritone Benjamin Taylor, singing Old American Songs by Aaron Copeland, and violinist Dorothy Chung, Symphonie Espagnole by Lalo.

Concerts are supported in part by the generosity of local Salem sponsors The Salem Trust Fund Commission, The Salem Five Bank, The Salem Cultural Council and the generous donations from the general public, our audience.
