Salt Marsh in the City - Walk & TAlk

Old Creek Marsh "Walk & Talk"

Join Salem Sound Coastwatch for a "walk and talk" at Old Creek Marsh, a beautiful and productive salt marsh located at the edge of Salem State University's Central Campus. As we walk around the edge of the marsh, we'll talk about the plants, fish, birds, insects that live in this marsh, which is part of the Forest River Estuary.

We'll explore the role of the salt marsh in our marine ecosystem and the history of this marsh, which has been restored from an industrial dumping ground. This program is part of the TRAILS & SAILS, two weeks of free activities all over Essex County sponsored by the Essex National Heritage Commission. Free and open to the public.

Meet behind Marsh Hall, the dormitory on Salem State University's Central Campus (near the Enterprise Center) in Salem, MA 01970. Parking is limited--Park only in spaces not reserved for residents. Additional parking is available at the O'Keefe Center on Canal Street.

Note: Light walking for approximately 1/2 mile on a paved and hardpacked walking path. Those interested in going onto the marsh should wear closed toed shoes that can get wet or muddy.

Salem Sound Coastwatch is a nonprofit environmental organization working to make our coastal waters, marine habitats, beaches and salt marshes clean, safe and healthy.
