"How is Climate Change Affecting Our National Parks?" - Free Lecture

Responding to climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing the National Park Service today. It cannot be ignored—our national parks contain the most treasured landscapes and important historical sites in this country. Coastal sites are especially vulnerable to the climate change impacts of storm surge and sea level rise.

At this presentation, Jonathan Parker of the Salem Maritime National Historic Site, will talk about how the National Park Service is actively responding to the threats of climate change. This is the third presentation in a series of lectures on “Climate Change in New England” sponsored jointly by Salem Sound Coastwatch and the National Park Service.  Free and open to the public. Parking is available across the street at the Museum Place Garage for $.75/hr.

December 3, 7:30 pm – “A Piece of the Carbon Mitigation Puzzle: America's Offshore Wind Energy Opportunity” - Fara Courtney, Director of US Offshore Wind Collaborative, will look at the status of the offshore wind industry globally, and the potential, progress and challenges in this country, with a particular focus on activity in the Northeast.

December 10, 7:30 pm – "Preparing for Coastal Climate Change: How Do We Assess Vulnerability and Plan to Adapt?" Dr. Paul Kirshen, Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of New Hampshire and member of the International Panel on Climate Change, is an expert in developing strategies to protect coastal urban infrastructures.
