EX: Antique Pocketbooks at The Gables

Antique Pocketbooks is now featured at
The Gables
March 4-17   The
House of the Seven Gables is presenting exhibits this winter.  The current
exhibit, Antique Pocketbooks, displays over 50 bags that date from c.
1900-1960 with many mesh bags from Whiting & Davis and Mandalian
Manufacturing Co., both Massachusetts companies. The bags were considered
"little treasures" and were extremely popular from 1900 to the
1930s.  They continue to be collector's items, today. Some of the
bags are "staged".  You'll find scenes from The Hunt, The Opera,
A Venetian Ball, Across the Pond: Invite to The Captain's Table, and The
Wedding (including a satin wedding gown from 1895!)  Don't miss this
enchanting exhibit!  The Gables is open six days a week in the winter,
closed on Wednesdays.  The exhibit is free to Gables Members, and open for
a nominal donation ( $7 suggested) for adults.
