Don Gorvett: Exhibition of Woodcut Blocks and Prints

Don Gorvett has produced large-scale reduction woodcut prints for decades. His command of the medium results in work of unforgettable complexity, scale and expressive power. This spring, Salem State University’s Center For The Arts honored him with the 2013 Lifetime Creative Achievement Award. The Winfisky Gallery is proud to start the 2013/14 season by hosting this uniquely instructive exhibition where visitors will not only be able to see the prints but also the rarely-seen massive woodblocks which yield the prints.

Amongst his many distinctions, Mr. Gorvett was invited by the Fitchburg Art Museum to participate in the New England Impressions exhibit which traveled to West Germany. His works may be found in the collections of the Boston Athenaeum, the Portland Museum of Art, the Ogunquit Museum of American Art, the Cape Ann Museum, the Duxbury Art Complex, the Currier Museum of Art, and numerous corporate and private collections. A resident of Ogunquit, Maine since 1991, Gorvett now operates Piscataqua Fine Arts in Portsmouth, NH. He is a graduate of the School of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and former board member of the Boston Printmakers.

Mr. Gorvett's work will be shown in Salem State's Winfisky Gallery from September 4 through October 9. An artist's reception will be held in the gallery on Wednesday, September 18 at 2 pm.
