Salem Witches in the Running for America's Most Unique Mascot

The USA Today High School Sports webpage has the Salem Witches in the running to be named the Commonwealth's most unique high school mascot.

It may not seem strange to us - but the fact that Salem High School's athletic teams play under the name The Salem Witches has us in the running to be named America's Most Unique High School Mascot.

Right now Salem has 54 percent of the vote with 248 votes.

The other Massachusetts teams the running are the Arlington Spy Ponders, the Ashland Clockers, the Holy Name Central Catholic Naps and the Springfield High School of Science and Technology Cybercats.

Basic Rules: You must be at least 13 years old to vote. There is no limit to the number of times a person can vote as long as the Best Mascot Rules are followed.

The 51 winners will advance to the second round, where they will be divided among six regions. The regional round will begin at 11 a.m. March 6 and ends at 3 p.m. March 14.

The six winners then will compete in the national round, beginning at 11 a.m. March 15 and ending at 3 p.m. March 25.
