Salem Police Make 13 Weekend Arrests

The following information was submitted by the Salem Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log:

Friday, Feb. 22:

  • At 5:09 p.m., a man with an outstanding warrant was located at the intersection of Derby and English streets. Michael P. Kennedy, 41, of 62 Derby St., Salem, was arrested for having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 5:45 p.m., police located a man with an outstanding warrant on Congress Street. Michael S. Klayman, 42, of 17 Leavitt St., Salem, was arrested for having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 6:08 p.m., police responded to a report of kids throwing ice on Prince Street.
  • At 6:18 p.m., police assisted with the removal of animals from a recently-condemned property on Beacon Street.
  • At 7:17 p.m., police responded to a report of a past break-in at an apartment on Congress Street. Sneakers, headphones, and some electronics were reportedly stolen.
  • At 8:19 p.m., police responded to a report of shoplifting at Market Basket on Highland Avenue. Matthew T. Cummings, 39, of 12 First St., Salem, was arrested on charges of shoplifting and two counts of illegally possessing a class B substance (Suboxone, Adderall).
  • At 8:23 p.m., police responded to a report of a past break-in at a home on Boston Street.
  • At 10:03 p.m., police located a woman with an outstanding warrant on Margin Street. Lillian Kritikos, 62, of 56 Margin St., Salem, was arrested for having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 10:03 p.m., police located a woman with an outstanding warrant on Margin Street. Melissa A. Kovacev, 38, of 56 Margin St., Salem, was arrested for having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 11:43 p.m., police responded to a report of a loud house party on Leach Street.
  • At 11:46 p.m., police responded to a report of people throwing snowballs on Lafayette Street.

Saturday, Feb. 23:

  • At 2:50 a.m., police on patrol reported that a man started yelling at them. John J. Burke, 24, of 4 Lyme St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct.
  • At 3:40 a.m., police responded to a report of an unwanted person at a home on Pingree Street. Joseph P. Nazarian, 58, of 44 Pingree St., Salem, was arrested for having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 10:49 a.m., police responded to a reported break-in on Cloutman Street. A man told police that someone entered his bedroom while he was sleeping, stole a used PlayStation, and wrote a threatening message on his television screen.
  • At 11:37 a.m., police located a couple believed to have been involving in a shoplifting incident at the Stop & Shop in Swampscott. Robert F. Graham, 33, of 53 Belleview Ave., Salem, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. Tiffany L. Zemp, 27, of 53 Belleview Ave., Salem, was arrested on a charge of providing a false name to a police officer and for having four outstanding warrants.
  • At 12:41 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Broadway.
  • At 1:14 p.m., police responded to an attempted break-in on Webb Street.
  • At 3:11 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Bridge Street. Kenneth A. Belanger, 18, of 10 Becket St., Salem, was arrested on charges of possessing a class B substance and possessing a class D substance (marijuana) with intent to distribute. Scott E. Powers, 25, of 88 Ocean Ave., Salem, was arrested on a charge of possessing a class B substance.
  • At 5:25 p.m., police located a man known to have outstanding warrants at the intersection of Lafayette and Dodge streets. Joseph T. Anderson, 19, of 116 Lafayette St., Salem was arrested for having three outstanding warrants.
  • At 5:48 p.m., police responded to a reported break-in on Charter Street.
  • At 6:44 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Congress Street. Liam R. Mackenzie, 23, of 86th Ave., St. Petersburg, Fla., was arrested on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and possessing a class E substance.
  • At 9:23 p.m., police responded to a reported arson on Leach Street. A 1998 Mercedes Marquis was reportedly set on fire. Click Here for our full story.
  • At 11:21 p.m., police responded to a report of several loud bangs near the intersection of Essex and Hamilton streets.

Sunday, Feb. 24:

  • At 5:58 a.m., police responded to a report of a motor vehicle in a snowbank at the intersection of Lafayette Street and Fairview Avenue. Sarah N. Sweet, 19, of 5 Hingston St., Peabody, was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
  • At 12:24 p.m., a resident entered a police station to report that her laptop was stolen while she was making copies at the Staples on Paradise Road.
  • At 1:37 p.m., a man was placed under arrest on Loring Avenue. Kathleen R. Ahern, 36, of 190 Summer St., Haverhill, was arrested for having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 2:03 p.m., police responded to a reported shoplifting at Walmart on Highland Avenue. Christine M. Zeuli, 35, of the streets of Salem, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting merchandise by asportation and for having an outstanding warrant.
