Five Things to Know: This Weather Won't Last

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.

Today is Wednesday, Jan. 30, and here are the five things you need to know:

1. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect a chance of rain, mainly after 11 a.m. Otherwise it will be cloudy, with a high near 56. Tonight should bring rain and possibly a thunderstorm after 10 p.m. The overnight low will be around 48. (low tide, 6:58 a.m.; sunrise, 6:59 a.m.; high tide, 1:10 p.m.; sunset, 4:54 p.m.) Don't get to excited - Friday's low is expected to be 17.

3. Salem High School's boys' varsity hockey team will host the O'Bryant School of Math and Science tonight. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., so consider stopping by to cheer them on.

4. The Lifebridge Neighborhood Advisory Committee will meet tonight at the City Hall Annex on Washington Street. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in the building's main third floor meeting room.

5. Today in History: On Jan. 30, 1835, the first assassination attempt against a President of the United States took place. Richard Lawrence attempted to shoot Andrew Jackson, but failed and was subdued by a crowd, including several congressman.
