with the loud explosion like sound with a quick flash behind it, it sounded like and looked similar to a Flash Bang Granade. A friend of mine in Marblehead said he heard and felt something around that time. Whatever it was it seemed to have waken alot of residence! Talking to the Salem Police Dispatcher on the phone she didnt seem to of believed me until more people started to call in.

I was sitting near a window at the time and I definitely heard something loud from my home in Marblehead. It was so loud that I almost decided to turn on my scanner and head out with a camera. It sounded to me like a car had struck a building.

We have been hearing these in East Tennessee too. Our local news posted a question about it on their FB. They haven't been able to figure out what it is either. https://m.facebook.com/home.php?%24MURI__user=0#!/story.php?story_fbid=422299177836114&id=315783721820994&comment_id=3797075&ref=m_notif&notif_t=like&actorid=542597686&%24MURI__user=0

Definitely heard the LOUD boom from my home in the Derby Wharf neighborhood! It sounded like an explosion coming from the harbor. Looked out the window but didn't see anything. Kept waiting to hear the sirens from Police & Fire, but nothing.

It was loud at my home at the wharf as well, but Klassy already beat me to the punch line....

We're on the water across from Dion's and we didn't hear it, but one of the pooches jumped into bed shaking and wager the tale – the one that doesn't like thunder or fireworks. So I assumed she heard something that freaked her out.

I'm down near Forest River and it was loud. I'll review my security system to see if it caught it. I'm sure it did!

Owen, this is what I got. This is near the corner of Ocean and Summit. Clearly not seismic. Much larger then a quarter stick though. Hopefully the share will be accessible. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=818409763669

I used to see this kind of flash and hear that kind of noise in Peabody last year. It hasn't happened for a while, but it always used to happen around 1 am. It would happen almost every night...used to scare the daylights out of me.
I, "state your name" January 08, 2013 at 02:25 AM
It's called drunk people lighting off fireworks after 1am. ;)
