Can't Shovel Your Sidewalk? Hire a Local Teen

City residents incapable of clearing their own sidewalks are being encouraged to hire local teens.

In a statement issued Tuesday afternoon, the city of Salem urged city residents and business owners to do everything in their power to clear their sidewalks for pedestrians.

"We are mindful of the amount of snow that has fallen and are using our best discretion to help connect those who need assistance with those interested in shoveling," the statement read.

Understanding that many city residents are incapable of shoveling the snow themselves, the city is looking to connect residents with local teenagers interested in earning a little extra money.

Anyone interested in hiring a teen shoveler can email Snow@salem.com and type “shoveling help” in the subject line.

The city will then forward your request to students who have signed up for the shoveling assistance program.
