Our Lights on After School Open House welcomed the community to drop in and see some of our great programs in action. Thank you to special attendees, Salem School Superintendent Dr. Stephen Russell and Bowditch School Principal Victoria Shams.

Good job by the Ultimate Journey program members who helped give tours of the Club at our open house, and visited Longhill Farms in Beverly to volunteer by pulling weeds and learning about plant growth.

The SMART girls program discovered how to make a positive difference in the world by studying the life and lessons of Mother Teresa, culminating in each girl writing cards to people that they thought needed some encouragement. And participants of the Club Yoga program learned a series of poses to practice to bring even more peace and joy into their lives.

The guest speaker at the Creative Writing Program was Beth O'Grady, who works at the Boston Herald and writes a column for the Salem Gazette. Beth shared some thoughts about writing with the kids, and participated in fun word activities with the kids where they each wrote a creative Halloween story using a Mad Libs format.

Congratulations to Jolandy Luna, Torch Club member of the month for being helpful to the Club staff, and for being the top point earning member for the Power Hour Homework Help Program.

The floor hockey team lost a tough game to Charlestown, despite outstanding performances by Richard Jiminez and Junius Flemming.

The Kids Club Members at the Hawthorne Boulevard Site had their first bake sale of the year, raising enough money to support the K-9 Connection Project, and purchase items needed for our program room. A big thank you to Club parents that baked the goodies and Club Members for supporting the sale.

Kid’s Club members at the Witchcraft Site had a great week participating in our Smart Girls, Ultimate Journey and Hip Hop Dance programs and weekly awards were given out to Gary Silk for Sportsmanship Award, and Kate Parson who was our Star of the Week.
