What Should Replace the Daily Bagel?

Tell us what you envision for this Museum Place spot.

The Daily Bagel Cafe has vacated its place at , and that has left a spot in the mall that also abuts Church Street.

The building is located steps away from the Church Street parking lot and has a large corner space.

If you had the resources and the authority to decide what would go here, what would you choose?

Tell us in the comments.

Sabrina August 05, 2012 at 12:02 PM
It needs to be replaced with another coffee shop/breakfast place.
Mark August 05, 2012 at 12:21 PM
How about a butcher shop???
Anthony O'Donnell August 05, 2012 at 03:08 PM

Billie McGregor August 05, 2012 at 03:50 PM

jennifer August 05, 2012 at 04:51 PM
A bakery that serves coffee.
Mamabear August 05, 2012 at 05:12 PM
How about Panera Bread ? they have outdoor seating.
Renee August 05, 2012 at 05:34 PM
Salem needs a Middle Eastern Restaurant.
christine August 05, 2012 at 05:53 PM
i like the panera bread idea or even a bakery that sells coffee and other drinks,,,,,or even a buffet style place may work .....or even a lil ice cream shop with other items to feed movie goers b4 and after the show
Edward August 05, 2012 at 06:18 PM
How about....Dunkin' Donuts! We already have 14 in Salem, including inside the two gas stations on North Street and four on Highland Avenue. What's one more?? :-)

I like the idea of a bagel world or a coffe/lunch place.
chester suchecki August 05, 2012 at 08:40 PM
how about a bargan clothing store like jerrys? that was a money maker and was here forever.
john August 05, 2012 at 09:26 PM
Panera would never get sucked into that dead zone.In fact,I give 3 potato 4 less than 6 months. They may survive till halloween but after that???????
Todd Perry August 06, 2012 at 12:24 AM
Anything but another CVS or Dunks.
Cwheels August 06, 2012 at 12:27 AM
John, Is 3 potato 4 any good? I forgot all about wanting to try it out, See what the mall does to a business.
john August 06, 2012 at 01:11 AM
I tried it and think the product is ok but not good enough to pay the rent in the mall. I have walked by a couple of times and the place was empty. They would be better off as a street vendor.

I'd love to see another independent bookstore in downtown Salem. We used to find all kinds of interesting books by local authors at Cornerstone Books.
Cathleen August 06, 2012 at 04:34 PM
I second the middle eastern idea!
Michael McNeil August 06, 2012 at 05:49 PM
A Gentlemen's Club like the Golden Banana.
Nelson Dionne August 06, 2012 at 11:57 PM
I'd love to see a Chinese buffet, or even an Indian, but I have a hunch that there is just not enough square footage to support anything beyond a simple concept. Bring on Bagel World !
Edward August 07, 2012 at 12:34 AM
Wasn't there a Weylu/s Too (Chinese restaurant) down there many years back? The same family had Weylu's on Route 1 N in Saugus up on the hill.
William Legault August 07, 2012 at 02:21 AM
There was a Weylu's and it did very well for a while and then events transpired having nothing to do with a Salem location that caused it to close.

Does anyone remember the cheese & onion bagels that Mello's Bakery used to make ? They took a regular bagel & added a good size spoonful of what could have been a "farmer''s cheese & fresh onion mix to the center of the bagel just before it went into the oven. (The cheese resembled cottage cheese, & browned up nicely ). Fantastic, especially when still hot out of the oven ! One more locally produced food item I've never seen anywhere else.
