Tequila Left on Bar in Red LuLu Break-In

A Salem man was arrested after an investigation by police.

arrested a Salem man Tuesday after they caught him breaking into on surveillance camera.

John Paul Bastian, 54, of 116 Lafayette St. was arrested at his home late Tuesday morning on charges of breaking and entering at night with intent to commit a crime, larceny of property $250 or over and malicious destruction of property following an investigation by police.

At 8:25 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to Red LuLu on the initial call there had been a burglary.

An employee told the officer "when he came into the bar in the morning he found the back door locked but the alarm not armed," police said.

The man also noticed a broken window on a case and he "also found several other items out of place, including one bottle of tequila that was left in on the middle of the bar," police said.

Police said the man called his boss, and the boss called the department.

When detectives were processing the scene, they obtained a video from the surveillance system and were able to see "a single male enter the business after hours in the rear and take items from the office area," police said.

A detective was able to tentatively identify the suspect, who was apprehended and arrested after further investigation, police said.
