Salem Wine Imports Changing Hands

Salem Wine Imports will reopen under new ownership later this summer.

Another business on on Church Street in Salem is changing hands.

At their meeting Monday night, the Salem Licensing Board unanimously approved the transfer of the annual wine and malt package store license possessed by Salem Wine Imports to the shop's new owner, Katherine Genis.

Genis' lawyer told board members she recently purchased the space and its inventory from the former owner for $375,000 and expects to officially take over the business sometime in August.

The business will keep the same name, she said.

Earlier this month, the licensing board approved the transfer of an all-alcoholic beverage license held by the former 43 Church Restaurant to the owners of Turner's Seafood Grill & Market, which is expected to open on Church Street in the fall.

Do you buy beer or wine at Salem Wine Imports? What advice would you have for the new owner?

Yes, it's a gem! We'll miss Eric, but extend a warm welcome to Ms. Genis!

The best part of shopping at this store was the owners vast knowledge of wine and his ability to select a wine that matched the customers taste and occasion. Though I did not know the owner he will be missed.

Thanks for all the kind comments. Time for a little more rowing, skiing and walking Max and maybe take up golf again. The store will not close in the interim and I will be around for at least the first year to help run the store. I've loved my time opening and running SWI in the past five plus years and there is no doubt I've had the best clientele anywhere. Seriously love you all. You've made every day for five years fun and exciting. Well, you and the wine.

Thank you all for your kind comments. I've had a wonderful time in my five plus years at SWI and believe I have the best customers in the world. Time for a little more skiing, rowing, walking Max and maybe take up golfing again. I am going to stay on for a year at least, to help in the transition and look forward to another exciting year with all of you and all of the wine.
