Opening Soon in Salem: Naumkeag Ordinary

Here's a look at recent progress inside the future home of Naumkeag Ordinary in downtown Salem.

Work is underway inside the former Cafe Polonia space on Washington Street that is expected to reopen next month as Naumkeag Ordinary.

We stopped by Wednesday morning to snap a couple photos of progress inside the restaurant and learned that co-owners Matt Brady and Dan Bitler hope to open for business in the second week in April.

Although the interior work has been mostly cosmetic, one of the most noticeable changes is the new bar area at the center of the room. A photo of the structure can be seen in the photos attached to this post.

Why Naumkeag Ordinary?

Naumkeag is the name of the Native-American tribe that lived in Salem and an ordinary was the Colonial term used to refer to a tavern.

Naumkeag Ordinary will offer primarily American pub cuisine with entrees ranging between $8 and $15, according to a menu that co-owner Matt Brady said is still a work in progress.

Brady and Bitler most recently worked together at Coda Bar and Kitchen in Boston's South End.

Salem Patch will be sure to let you know when an opening date is set.
