Lahey Health 5K Cancer Walk & Run

The event supports cancer care and patients at Lahey Health locations.

Lahey Health is well on its way to meeting its goal of $290,000 for cancer care through the lahey Health 5K Cancer Walk & Run, but there is still time to help as fundraising continues until June 30. To give, visit LaheyHealth5k.org.

On June 7, the Lahey Health 5K Cancer Walk & Run celebrated its ninth annual event in Burlington and its fifth annual event in Peabody. More than 1,200 walkers and runners participated in the events and nearly 200 volunteers turned out in support.

The event supports cancer care at Lahey Health locations in Burlington, Peabody, Beverly and Gloucester. All of the proceeds go toward services for their cancer patients, and to ensuring that the most state-of-the-art care is available to the Lahey Health communities.

At the Burlington walk, Andrew G. Villanueva, MD, the Interim Chief Medical Officer at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, delivered the opening remarks. In his words, the event “provides all of us an opportunity to come together to have some fun while honoring survivors, remembering loved ones lost, and reminding ourselves how far we still have to go in the fight against cancer. The funds we raise truly make a difference in so many peoples’ lives”.

Cancer survivors from Billerica, Tewksbury and Danvers also spoke at the event, sharing their inspirational stories about how Lahey Health’s cancer services saved their lives.
