A&B Salem officially opened for business Monday evening in the former Great Escape Restaurant space on St. Peter Street.

Click through the photos above for a sneak peek around downtown Salem's newest restaurant.

According to co-owner Thomas Holland, A&B is "a semi-quick serve restaurant which serves healthier, local farm to table beef raised only on small farms which practice sustainable farming and never ever add any hormones or antibiotics to the feed."

The beef burgers will be accompanied with vegetarian options, seafood options and poultry options, Holland said.

Holland has more than 20 years in the restaurant industry and has worked at restaurants in San Francisco, Boston, and opened Alta Strada at MGM Foxwoods.

Co-owning the restaurant with Holland is Amy Butler, who assisted him in opening Alta Strada at MGM Foxwoods.

A semi quick place with no parking? I think that the parking problem is what killed the previous operation. It really makes me wonder why someone would take such a chance.

There is only "no parking" for the disabled or the ridiculously lazy. Park at the garage near the museum, or the lot in front of the post office, or the garage at Congress St, or a street space on Essex. Hundreds of spots within a 10-minute walk. God forbid you should have to exert yourself.

it was NOT the parking that killed the previous restaurant; it was the terrible fare! Hoping the new owners can make a go of it! Happy to have a farm to table burger joint in town :)

if you want vegetarian food "like Life Alive" then just go TO Life Alive. Please don't try to make a meat-based sort of restaurant turn into some sort of veggie joint. SO happy to have A+B open and looking forward to checking it out this weekend.

I liked the food at the jail. If the parking is only a problem for the lazy, then why did the jail offer parking service? This is a bad location for almost everything.

That Girl: I agree totally! Then just GO to Life Alive....or go to A&B and ask for a plate of lettuce and tomato! Hey, Subway has a lot of veggie options, too! It's obvious that this one is aiming to stir the pot and cause trouble here, unfortunately. I wish A&B, the new "hamburger" spot well in the future with their new venture!
