Salem police have identified the alleged car-jacker who led area police on a car chase through the center of the city Wednesday morning.

Salem police have identified the woman accused of car-jacking a vehicle in Peabody before leading area police on a chase through the center of the city Wednesday morning.

Rosa Maria Guarino, 31, of 20 Crane Ave., Peabody, was arrested on charges of failure to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, receiving a stolen motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs.

She is expected to face additional charges in Peabody, Salem police said.

Guarino was arrested just after 11 a.m. near the intersection of North and Essex streets after leading area police on a pursuit from Peabody into Salem.

She was arrested by a Marblehead police officer after taking a wrong turn down a one-way street, according to a post on the Marblehead Police Department's Facebook page

Guarino reportedly attacked a motorist before stealing a red Chevy Prizm from the Stop & Shop in Peabody and fled the scene into Salem, striking at least one vehicle in the process.

She is expected to be arraigned tomorrow morning in Salem District Court.
