Last week---

Pam and I ventured out last Thursday and found ourselves at Opus Underground where Ross Livermore was performing. Now I’ve told you about this fab new music room and I’m sure you will find something you like there. Ross and his band were just what we needed on this cold, November evening. As usual, I stayed late because I don’t need to get to work until April. But Pam could only stay for the first set. You may have heard me say before, “work is over rated”. Check out their schedule, which is short this week. But all kinds of bands are playing here regularly, so watch their schedule and git down there.

Saturday, I was out in the afternoon and worked me up a good thirst. I decided to stop for a “soda” at Murphy’s, where The Jenni Lynn Band was playing. Now I don’t think I had heard these guys before but they sure a nice mix of Rock and Roll, from Zepplin to Hendrix and back again. You can check them out again this week at Vic’s Boathouse on Saturday.

Sunday Funday. What needs to be said? One of the good things about being unemployed in the cooler months is that I’m not working while this is going down. Last weeks special guests included Brad Faucher and Shinichi Otsu as well as some regular guests, like John Devine. I’m expecting a chorus of Happy Birthday for John’s lovely young bride, Peg, who he robbed from the cradle several years ago.

Wednesday evening, the biggest drinking night of the year, and there I was, at In a Pigs Eye to hear that great duo from the Island of Nahant, Jim and Roze Malone, AKA MERJ. Great show guys. I’ll tell you, it’s a good thing the legal blood alcohol level is much higher than .08 for drinking and walking. Too bad you didn’t stick around Ben.

My picks in the coming week:

Of course there is the jam down at In a Pigs Eye today, that’s a no brainer. But after, walk on down to Brodies to hear Katrin Trio, Featuring that sultry bass player Alison Keslow. It’s “hardly out of the way”

If you find yourself outside Salem tonight and missed them last week, the lifesaving station in Nahant has Nahant Jam II Hosted by Roze and Jim at 5:30 tonight. If I hadn’t just heard them Wednesday, I’d be tempted. But what a great use for this beach front property. Plenty of free parking just across the road.

Howling Wolf have finally updated their calendar, just in time to show Erinn Brown performing there tonight (Friday) at 10

Saturday at 9, check out The Jenni Lynn Band over at Vic’s. And, Yup, you’re gonna need to bring those dancing shoes.

Sunday Funday at Brodies Seaport, this week featuring that guitar great, Matt Stubbs, at 4. Don’t think about it. Just meet me there.

After, if you got it in you, you can finish off the weekend in fine style with Salem’s own Sax God, Henley Douglas, at the Pig.

Tuesday should find you back at the Pig for their monthly special, Two for Twosday's, this week featuring the lovely Lois Lane and I’m guessing/hoping, playing with The Dailey Planets, thou their website doesn’t say that. I hope you didn’t put those dancing shoes away cus you’re gonna need them for this show. Again, see you there.

This list was put together with much help from STANSLIST. See his site here:  http://www.stanslist.com  Thanks Stan.

Please excuse any incorrect spelling and omissions. But sometimes I make up words too.

Go out and listen to some great LIVE music in the wonderful, strange, historic and hip town of Salem, Massachusenutts.

And tip your bartenders and servers.

And always check with the venue as times and schedules change. (and I sometimes Feck up)

Peace, Love and Zydeco.
