Birthdays:

Buddy Guy 77, Mick Jagger 70, Bobby Gentry (of Tallahassee Bridge fame) 69, Jonathan (sit around the shanty---) Edwards 67, Sally Strothers (Meatheads wife) 65, Deval Patrick 57, Kevin Spacy 54, Sandra Bullock 49, A-Rod (who cares) 38, Danger Mouse 36,

My favorite guitarist, and songwriter, J.J. Cale, died this week at age 74. Without knowing who he was, I saw him and Little Stevie Wonder, open for the Rolling Stones in the old Boston Garden (the GAHDIN) back in ’73. Tickets were $15.(Shows ya how old I am)  I really fell in love with his music a few years back when a friend of mine handed me a copy of JJ Cale “Live”, a truly great album. I’m listening to him right now. R.I.P.  J.J. Cale

My picks in the coming week:

Thursday:

Dave Bailin and the Bailouts down at the Pig. Whenever they are in town, they are my pick of the evening. Great rock and roll

The lovely Erinn (2N) Brown is another great choice for the evening at The Lobster Shanty. (I LOVE THIS PLACE). I’m hoping for a nice night and the music will be outside. Stop by after you visit the farmers market next door.

Friday:

The Blues Jam down at In a Pigs Eye, 4:15ish to 7:15ish. What can I say that I don’t say every week but DON’T MISS IT!!!!

The Jackleg Preachers are on a special cruise (for “special” people) Friday night at 7:30 on the Mahi Mahi on Pickering Wharf. I love being on the ocean and to have a great live band and 150 “special” people (you know who you are) on a boat just puts it over the top. It’s always a sell out so get your ticket in advance. I am going to miss most of the jam for this cus you know how I get.

After the cruise, mosey on over to Seaport Café for The Transisters. These fun guys will have you tearin up the rug so wear comfortable shoes.

Saturday:

I got a special recommendation from the original “Rat” Pack guy, Terry Brenner and that’s good enough for me. Moose and the Mudbugs, who I never heard of, take the stage tonight at Brodies Seaport Tavern. We have a lot of great music in Salem but it’s always good to hear someone new. Welcome Moose and Co.

Sunday:

Local Sax legend and all around good guy, Henley Douglas plays In a Pigs Eye tonight. Looks like I won’t be headed right home from work tonight. Show starts at 8PM. “You can’t get funk on the radio. You got to go to the show”. See you there.

Something to think about and plan for, next weekend, August 10th is the 2nd annual Gloucester Blues Festival at Stage Fort Park in Gloucester. This spectacular harbor front park is the perfect place to enjoy a sunny August Saturday afternoon. Check out the lineup here--- http://gloucesterbluesfestival.com/  And as I always say, see you there.

Please excuse any incorrect spelling and omissions.

Go out and listen to some great LIVE music in the wonderful, strange, historic and hip town of Salem, Massachusenutts.

And tip your bartenders and servers.

And always check with the venue as times and schedules change. (and I sometimes Feck up)

Have a great week, Yeh Goats.
