I surprised myself with the amount of great music I heard in town this past week. Pam and I wanted to check out the new room downstairs at OPUS, so we headed over Thursday for The Dejas show. Let me tell you, this is the best room in town, for a select, intimate music experience. What a great sound AND vibe. Check it out. I'm looking forward to more shows here.

Friday, as expected, the jam down at the Pig was fab, but we missed John Devine, who is touring Germany and Italy with his lovely wife Peg.

I followed that down at Seaport, where I finally caught Gumbo Diablo. They were everything I had hoped for, a fun, get up and dance Zydeco band. Peace, Love and Zydeco.

Saturday started early again, with Britanicca Acoustic on the patio at Murphy’s.

After a quick power nap, it was down to Vics to catch my faves, MERJ, with the full band playing. I didn’t even have to request Fisherman Blues.

I needed to see Barrence Whitfield one more time before he left on his European tour and The Grapevine’s Sunday Brunch was the perfect place. What a cool way to wake up on a Sunday morning. And check out Bald Bill on the bar, mixing up the perfect Mimosa. I had to work at 3 so I didn’t imbibe (till later) but I told Pam it was probably the first time I remember her having an alcohol drink and me not. No worries. Sunday work schedule ends soon.

Last night (Wednesday) it was back to the Pig for more Britannica Acoustic. It was after work so yes I had a drink or 2.

WHEW, ain’t we got fun down here in the Witch City. Ironic, I’m listening to music on my Ipod and the band Mississippi Fever is playing “Too much alcohol”

My picks in the coming week:

The last cruise of the season tonight and it may be the best. Lois Lane and the Daily Planets take to Salem Sound (an appropriate name) for the last cruise this year on the Hannah Glover. Tix are $19 and worth every penny. It’s going to be a beautiful night on the water. Hope to see ya there.

Friday will be the last show for Dave Babcock as DJ extrodineer on Salem State radio WMWM at 4PM. For some reason, after you graduate, you are no longer welcome to DJ. Good luck to the new guy/gal who follows. Thanks for all your years Dave and see you at Le’ Shant

Friday, of course, we have the jam down at the Pig at 4ish. Every week, this is my favorite Friday show. I’ll be there but late this week.

I’ll be rejoining Pam and our friend Terri on the patio at Le’ Shant, for my weekly fix of Vein Friday at 8. Yous best get out and hear these guys cus soon enough, the snow will be flying and the band will be inside. But if you miss this show, they will be back Sunday for your dining and dancing pleasure.

SHUT UP!!! Barrence Whitfield and the Savages return for what I think is their final local show before their European tour, on the patio at The Black Lobster Saturday at 8. Pam, I HAVE to go to this show.

Sunday/Funday at the Seaport. What can I say but I’m gonna miss it again cus of work. No worries, season is almost over and this will be a regular stop for me again. But you have to go for one of the coolest shows in town.

Henley Douglas finishes off the night at The Pig Sunday. Always a great show with this cool dude. Stop in and wish him Happy Birthday.

They don’t come to town enough and work is going to keep me from seeing local faves, Big Ol’ Dirty Bucket, Monday on the patio at The Black Lobster. The 3PM show coincides with the start of my shift on the water. DAMN!!!

TwoforTwosday at In a Pigs Eye this week is featuring the Gretchen Bostrom Duo. I don’t know who’s with her but if you don’t know, Gretchen is lead singer for MY favorites, Juke Joint 5. See you at 10, Gretchen.
