In 1977, Convicted murderer Gary Gilmore was executed in Utah. The execution was the first of many to be performed in the US in more than a decade. For some reason, I remember the quote of his last words. “Let’s do it”

Last week---

I started the weekend out in good fashion, doing something I hardly ever do. I got in the car and traveled over the bridge. It was well worth it because Big Ol Dirty Bucket were playing at Chianti. Any time you can get out to hear this powerhouse funk band, well just DO IT.

Friday found me back down at In a Pigs Eye, where my old but very young friend Joyce was in the house having a birthday drink. Like I said, the best people were born in January. As usual, a SRO crowd there tonight.

Allizon Lizzance and Ed Sheer were tearin it up as this weeks special guests at Sunday/Funday at Brodies and again a SRO crowd. I’ve seen and heard her before but Allizon was the BOMB again last week. The show was interrupted by some silly sports show on TV. Did anyone notice who won?

My picks in the coming week:

I’ve been threatening since they opened to check out Reggae at OPUS Underground on Thursday but maybe this is the night. I may get delayed because I have another afternoon “Business Review” with some folks I used to work with. We’ll see. Tonight’s guest is Soul Rebel Project. Maybe see ya there?

Friday jam at the Pig? No brainer. This will probably be my last for a while.

Last week I misspoke and was slapped down by my friend K. O’b. but I find out Murphy’s doesn’t have music Every 2 weeks, it’s 2x a month, silly. This week we have someone new to me in Riverside Project who bill themselves as Rock and Roll. Sounds good to me. See you there at 4. I need to point out thou, sometime’s it’s 4, sometime’s it’s 5. If you get there at 4 and nothing is happening yet, you know what to do.

Another new one, thou I know and love this lovely lady. The Megan McKenzie Band are playing OPUS Underground Saturday night. I’ve told you before what a great room this is and here is your chance to hear a great band here. In the words of Gary Gilmore, “Let’s Do It”

Two of the great performers/musicians from my fave band Juke Joint Five are the special guests this week at Sunday/Funday. Silvertone Steve & Gretchen Bostrom will be there for your dining and dancing pleasure. I don’t know for sure but barring any flight delays, my money is on John and Peg Devine to make a triumphant return from a grueling week in the Caribbean on the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise. Oh, those poor folks. Think of the wonderful weather they missed.

The real reason I’m so sure John will show happens later what with Eric Reardon and Friends  closing out the weekend at In a Pigs Eye. Let’s see how long he can hold up.

We’ll see if I’ve got it in me before I take off on my sojourn but Wednesday night has Britannica Acoustic Duo down at In a Pigs Eye.

Bye for now---

I’m headed to points south where last night it was a balmy 32 degrees in Gainsville, Florida. My eventual destination is the Riverwalk Blues Fest in Ft Lauderdale (Ft. La dee dah) I’ll be out of town for most of February and I’m hoping someone will step up and take over this blog while I’m gone. You may even enjoy it enough to take it over completely. After all, the payback is--- um, ahhh, well. Fame and Fortune? Well, no it doesn’t pay a cent but sometimes you get a free drink. If you’re foolish enough to go for that than send me a note and I’ll hook you up. Other than that and seeing you in the next week, see ya round town.

This list was put together with much help from STANSLIST. See his site here:  http://www.stanslist.com  Thanks Stan.

Please excuse any incorrect spelling and omissions. But sometimes I make up words too, CORDWANGERS!!!

Go out and listen to some great LIVE music in the wonderful, strange, historic and hip town of Salem, Massachusenutts.

And tip your bartenders and servers.

And always check with the venue as times and schedules change. (and I sometimes Feck up)

Peace, Love and Zydeco.
