Have You Heard---

This week in history: November 21

Find out what's happening in Salemwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

In 1969, an estimated 250,000 people showed up on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. to protest the Vietnam War. My brother Dan was among them and was briefly detained by authorities.

In 1978, in Guyana, South America, more than 900 members of The Peoples Temple, committed mass suicide. That still amazes me.

Last week---

Well, last Friday found me at the weekly jam down at the Pig. This is the first time I had been in a while and word must have gotten out that I would be there because it was the largest crowd ever. Seriously, it was good to get back and it was a great show with lots of people I had either never heard or not heard for quite a while. Always a good bet.

I missed a good show at Murphy’s Saturday afternoon but I was able to make it down to the Pig AGAIN to hear my fave’s, Juke Joint Five. Man o’ Man, if you haven’t caught this band, you are missing the boat. They will be back next month, December 21, so get your Christmas shopping done and git on down and hear dees guys.

Lisa Marie and Silvertone Steve set the tone at Sunday Funday last week. What a great combo they are and have always been. The rest of the band “ain’t too shabby” either, what with Chris Fitz on guitar and PBD on drums WOWZA!!!

My picks in the coming week:

The MERJ perform at Brodies Seaport on Friday this week. Always a good take, they make me smile every time. And, they always give me happy feet too.

Vein are the only band performing at The Lobster Shanty this weekend. As usual, they will be there Friday. In less than 2 months, Le’ Shant will go into their winter hibernation so yous best get cho butt down there and hear this great band.

Ross Livermore Band at Opus Underground? What is there to think about? If you haven’t been to this great music room yret, here is your chance. They have FINALLY published a music schedule on their Facebook page under events. On a side note, The DEJAS are not on that schedule but I’m hoping that is an oversite. Then again, next Wednesday is the night before Thanksgiving.

Saturday, another of my faves, Bird Mancini return to In a Pigs Eye. I first heard these guys more than 10 years ago when they were regulars at Dodge Street Bar, at the time, the best live music venue north of Beantown. Anyway, they are still with us and for good reason---they are a great, fun and talented duo. Check them out.

Not listed as such on their website but I have inside info that Barrence Whitefield is making a triumphant return to Grapevine Sunday, after WOWING audiences all over Europe for the last several months. Brunch show starts at 11:30. What a great way to start your day. Welcome Home, Barrence.

After, you can make the short walk over to Brodies Seaport for the other Best show of the Week, Sunday Funday, this week featuring Brad Faucher and Shinichi Otsu, who are unknown to me but I’m betting are just FAB. See ya there.

If you miss MERJ Friday at Saport, you have another chance to catch them Wednesday at The Pig. Remember, the next day is Thanksgiving. I predict a big crowd.

This list was put together with much help from STANSLIST. See his site here:  http://www.stanslist.com  Thanks Stan.

Please excuse any incorrect spelling and omissions. But sometimes I make up words too.

Go out and listen to some great LIVE music in the wonderful, strange, historic and hip town of Salem, Massachusenutts.

And tip your bartenders and servers.

And always check with the venue as times and schedules change. (and I sometimes Feck up)

Peace, Love and Zydeco.
