This week in history:

Find out what's happening in Salemwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

In 1969 a group of misfits and hoodlums led by Charles Manson, broke into a house in L.A. and murdered starlet Sharon Tate and 4 others.

Also in 1969, the Woodstock Music and Art fair opened in upstate New York, attended by an estimated 400,000 people. Several million others falsely claim to have been there. Not me. I was at the Newport Jazz Fest. Really.

In 1995, Rock and Roll icon Jerry Garcia, died of an apparent heart attack. He was 53.

In 2012, Johnny Pesky, Boston Red Sox star and goodwill ambassador, died at age 93.

My picks in the coming week:

The first music show I have heard about at the newly opened OPUS, on Washington street (the old Greenland Café), present The Dejas and friends tonight, Thursday at 9PM. I can’t make it tonight but I’m looking forward to checking out this new room. I also hope they bring music on other nights. Good luck with your new venture.

MERJ are playing Seaport this Friday. These guys will have you singing along and up, tearin up the rug. Be prepared.

The Blues Jam at In a Pigs Eye, this week followed by the Salem Jazz and Soul kickoff party, led by Salems own, Henley Douglas. These two events combined, will shake you to your soul. Come on out and enjoy the best music Salem has to offer.

Back down to the Pig Saturday for my fave’s, Juke Joint Five. You know I’m HOT TO TROT for these guys. Good, old time R&B and Blues. See you there.

Gracie Curan is at Vics Boathouse Saturday. I don’t think Gracie has played this venue before but I see it as a great match that will let her “Let Loose”. Yeah Baby!

Again at the Pig, Sunday night for the Jazz and Soul after party. See you there after 10. You know what that’s all about. (WORK)

This list was put together with much help from STANSLIST. See his site here:  http://www.stanslist.com  Thanks Stan.

Please excuse any incorrect spelling and omissions.

Go out and listen to some great LIVE music in the wonderful, strange, historic and hip town of Salem, Massachusenutts.

And tip your bartenders and servers.

And always check with the venue as times and schedules change. (and I sometimes Feck up)

Have a great week, Yeh Goats.
