The Mayor of Derby Street, Dr. P, is sponsoring the 25th annual Turkey Rhumba at the VFW post on Derby Street. The Turkeyneck Swingers return to perform for this worthy benefit for Haven for Hunger. I think admission is only $10 but I could be wrong.

The Village Tavern is open at 6PM for drinks and the Pats game too.

Vic’s Boathouse has acoustic with Joe McDonald and Pats game at 8:20

Friday, November 23

Alright, let’s get back at it. Black Friday my A$$. Let’s PARTY!

Howling Wolf has Lois Lane and the Daily Planets. This band has been around for a while but I only saw them most recently. It seems they are having several dates in Salem and that’s great.  I have to give this my Pick of the Evening.

The Henrines are at Brodie’s Seaport Café. This is a new band by me but you know I’ve been known to frequent this place. Why, I don’t need to even ORDER a beer here.

The Weekly Blues Jam at In a Pigs Eye is at 4PM. I’ve been going to this a lot lately. I think it’s the longest continuous jam in town and I know why. Always a good, friendly crowd and if you ask nice and loud, they always play ONE MORE!!! I have been missing it on their calendar but the Pig has added a 2nd show on Friday’s lately, tonight featuring Andrew Gravel at 9PM

The Lobster Shanty has their house band Vein tonight and every Friday night.

Rockafellas has Lucky 13.

I know there is live music tonight and tomorrow at the new Village Tavern, because I saw it earlier. But as I am writing this, their website doesn’t go beyond November 16. I did stop in last week to hear JT and The Hounds. I wanted to check out the vibe and the sound in this room. I give both 2 thumbs up.

Tonight, Gulu Gulu has Qwill.

Danny Heath Trio are playing at Finz.

43 Church has Satch Kerans Band.

Saturday, November 24

Gulu Gulu has Noel Snow tonight.

In a Pigs Eye are featuring Vein tonight. I’m hoping the full band shows tonight. Pam and I really like these guys and I may even be able to talk her into joining me here tonight. Let’s call this my Pick of the Evening

Howling Wolf has the Clay Ventre and the Bond Girls

43 Church has Soul Review Project Featuring Qwill

The Lobster Shanty has my favorite lady, Release the Hounds at 8 to 11PM tonight.

The Jackleg Pretchers are at Vics Boathouse. I can guess where John Devine will be tonight.

Rockafellas has Bail out Boston

Brodies Seaport Café is featuring Boston Blues Challenge contestant, Gracie Curran and the High Falutin Band. These guys are high energy and lots of fun. Bring your dancing shoes. Another Pick of the Evening

Sunday, November 25

Sunday/Funday is the weekly jam at Brodie’s Seaport Café, starting around 4:15. This weekly event, hosted by the amazing Steve Peabody (PBD) and Chris Fitz is always my Pick of the Afternoon.  I’ll add a comment later in the week when I find out who the special guest is.

O’Neill’s has their weekly Irish Session starting around 4 today. Bring the kids. It’s that kind of show. Pam and I caught some of this show last week and made me realize how much I miss this. I need to visit more often to get in shape for my upcoming trip to the old sod. This is one of the reasons I love living in Salem.

Steve Spungin is the featured artist at Howling Wolf tonight and it seems, every Sunday.

Cap’ts has Jazz Brunch at noon. Peter Kostopolous is on the bill.

Ross Livermore, Paul Dumas and Neil Taylor are at Vic’s Boathouse, 6-9PM

In a Pigs Eye has Eric Reardon and friends to close out the weekend nicely for you. This has become my favorite way to close out the weekends.

Monday, November 26

Dave Bailin hosts the weekly open mic tonight at In a Pigs Eye.

Shows you may have missed:

As I mentioned above, I stopped into Village Tavern after the Blues Jam at the Pig, to check it out and hear JT and the Hounds. This is a cool, new room that you should give a listen to.

And Sunday, I not only went to O’neils for the Irish Session, but followed that with Sunday/Funday at Brodies Seaport Café.

This list was put together with much help from STANSLIST. See his site here:  http://www.stanslist.com  Thanks Stan.

Please excuse any incorrect spelling and omissions.

Go out and listen to some great LIVE music in the wonderful, strange, hip town of Salem.

And tip your bartenders and servers.

And always check with the venue as times and schedules change. (and I sometimes mess up)

Hope to see you out there!

Today’s picture is three music lovers, seen here preparing for a ride on the Irish Wake a few summers back. Jim Duffy, John Wynne and Cap’t Bob
