Have You Heard---

Before I write this week’s blog, I want to mention that Aubry Bracco, the editor for Salem Patch for the past 2 plus years, will be leaving our weird and wonderful city, moving on to her next adventure right after Halloween. It was Aubry who encouraged me to start this blog, even though I had my doubts about my writing skills. (I still do). I want to wish Aubry all the best. It has been my pleasure ever meeting you.

This week in music History: Chuck Berry  86, Bill Wyman 76, Tom Petty 62, Snoop Dogg 41

I don’t want to suggest it will happen but if I see the T-Rex 6 pack eating the hate preachers again this year, I just hope I have my camera ready in movie mode. Last year, I was laughing too hard to record it.

Ok folks. This is it. Let’s show those tourist’s what we got. Next Thursday, we get our city back, so let’s kick out the jams this week.

Thursday, October 25

Salem Farmers Market has no music on their schedule today. I hope that is a mistake.  Today, Salem 5 will be the sponsor of the market. I’m going early in hopes that they are giving away money. Also today, my favorite 5 star restaurant in town, 62 on Wharf, is doing a cooking demo. YUM!!!

In a Pig’s Eye has Lois Lane and the Daily Planets. I won’t be surprised if superman shows for this so leave your kryptonite at home.

System Soul is performing at Howling Wolf.

The Session returns to 43 Church with their weekly residency.   Member’s of The Session, The Dejas, (Aaron Katz and Callie Lipton,) as well as local musicians  Jacyn Tremblay, and Peter Tentindo, are also involved in the movie/play Scary Mary and the Audio Corsette, which is the midnight show at Salem Cinema this Saturday evening. Check it out here:   http://www.wickedlocal.com/salem/newsnow/x1629586867/Scary-Mary-and-the-Audio-Corsette-to-rock-Salem#axzz28zHfk1A0

Rockafellas is having Hot Like Fire. Ya Mon!

Dave Bailin and the Bailouts are at Brodie’s Seaport Cafe.  Dave and the boys are the best Rock and Roll show in town. PBD!!!!!!

RYAN FITZSIMMONS is performing at Scratch Kitchen.

The Lobster Shanty has the lovely Erinn (2N) Brown.  Stop by after the Farmers Market to see and hear this Salem Gem

Finz has Henley Douglas and the Cool Times Trio doing their weekly gig.

Jeff Savlon is performing at Gulu Gulu

I usually only mention Salem happenings but I’m making a rare exception here. Vanilla Manvelope is having a CD release party tonight at Chianti’s in Beverly. If you want to get away from the craziness for a night, this is where you want to go.

Friday, October 26

Some Girls are at Brodie’s Seaport Café.  Yeah, that’s right, some girls are at Seaport Café.

The weekly blues jam at In a Pigs Eye is at 4PM. I made it down for last week’s show and, as per usual, I wasn’t disappointed. You have to check this out. It’s a great, end of work week gig. (As if I know what work is.)

The Lobster Shanty has their house band Vein tonight and every Friday night.

Rockafellas has Pulse downstairs and upstairs they have Malibu Black Party.  I admit, I’m guessing on the upstairs/downstairs thing. Could be the opposite.

Tonight, Gulu Gulu has Radio Scotvoid.

O’Neill’s has Irish Session from 6-9PM tonight and every Friday.

The Zombie Prom is going on down at Vic’s Boathouse. Put on your best undead costume and come on down.

Saturday, October 27

O’Neill’s has Irish music from 6-9PM tonight and every Saturday.

Brodie’s Seaport Café has the 1201 Blues Band. These guys always put on a great show.

Rockafellas has The Voodoo Ball Upstairs and Midnight Goggles Downstairs. There is a $1,000 priswe for best costume so start thinking about it. I’m thinking of an invasion of T-Rex monsters. From their website: VOODOO BALL DJ SCOTTY MAC spinning upstairs. This party will not disappoint! This weekend will be an eclectic mix of many themes. So choose your poison and dress to the nines the best costume receives $1000 cash upstairs only. Other prizes will be given: couples, scariest, funniest, most unique and other runner up categories. Other features to the night(upstairs) include Psychics (tips only), horror movies, photo booth, vodka tasting, chef prepared delights and various swag. We will be offering VIP balcony tickets, see pricing and availability

Gulu Gulu has Gulu Halloween Party!!! Daniel Ouellette and The Sobijin with The Toes!  It’s just my guess but I’m thinking this will be a most interesting costume party. I’m also thinking it will be very crowded and still worth going, even just to watch from outside.

In a Pigs Eye has the Christine Baze Yelloween Party. I’m guessing this will be another interesting costume show.

43 Church has Satch Keran Band.

The Lobster Shanty has the return of Clay Venture & the Bond Girls at 8 to 11PM tonight.

Soul Rebel Project are at Vics Boathouse

O’Neill’s has their weekly Irish Session starting around 4 today. Bring the kids. It’s that kind of show.

Steve Spungin is the featured artist at Howling Wolf tonight.

Eric Reardon and Friends are at In a Pig’s Eye tonight. The Pig is my favorite place to finish off the weekend. I am also known to finish off a Fisherman or 2. (that’s beer)

Cap’ts has Jazz Brunch at noon. Peter Kostopolous is on the bill.

Rockafellas has the SCHOOL OF ROCK. See description below:

Salem EXPLODES with the best, annual Halloween party on Earth tonight. Get out your best costume and come on down for the party. But remember, you will be arrested for public drinking and also anything that even resembles a weapon will be confiscated. I always get my best pictures on this night. Pam may not agree with that. Music will be happening everywhere. Take public transportation cus it’s gonna be NUTTS!!!!

This list was put together with much help from STANSLIST.COM. Thanks Stan.

Please excuse any incorrect spelling and omissions.

Go out and listen to some great LIVE music in the wonderful, strange, hip town of Salem.

And tip your bartenders and servers.

And always check with the venue as times and schedules change. (and I sometimes mess up)

Hope to see you out there!

Today’s picture is a guy I see around town all the time. Sorry but I don’t know his name. He is a year round regular, not always dressed this way. He’s KILLA thou.
