Thursday, November 8

System Soul is performing at Howling Wolf.

The Session returns to 43 Church with their weekly residency.

It looks like Rockafellas  has stopped having live music on Thursdays. I hope this is temporary.

Julie Dougherty, Dave Brown, and Dave Mattacks  are at Brodie’s Seaport Cafe. The lovely Julie will soothe your soul.

The Lobster Shanty has Dave Bailin and Spike Emerson. This will be an acoustic show, I’m sure. I think all shows will be inside for the rest of the season unless we have another Indian summer.

Finz has Henley Douglas and the Cool Times Trio doing their weekly gig.

Lowman is performing at Gulu Gulu

Friday, November 9

Howling Wolf has Nick Consone

One of MY favorite bands, The Merj is at Brodie’s Seaport Café.  Besides that, it’s Roze’s birthday. So come on out for some great music, dancing, and birthday cake to go with that IPA.

The Weekly Blues Jam at In a Pigs Eye is at 4PM. I’ve been here for this the past couple of weeks and I have to say, this is one of the best shows in town, every week. Don’t miss it.

The Lobster Shanty has their house band Vein tonight and every Friday night.

Rockafellas has Spinz for your dining and dancing pleasure.

Tonight, Gulu Gulu has Exiles.

O’Neill’s has Irish Session from 6-9PM tonight and every Friday.

Matt Mckay and Debbie Lewis are playing at Finz.

43 Church has Qwill presents Soul Review Project

Saturday, November 10

O’Neill’s has Irish music from 6-9PM tonight and every Saturday.

Gulu Gulu has Sarah Fard tonight.

In a Pigs Eye are featuring Juke Joint 5, who have to be my favorite discovery this year. As I’ve said before, these guys are the real deal, old time blues. My PICK of the WEEKEND!!!

Howling Wolf has the Adria Smith Trio

43 Church has Ol’ Brown Shoe. Whoa, now this is a tough one for me. I know the Guitar player, Jeffrey from way back, when he played with my good friend, the late Stan Carter. These guys are a great, jam band kinda music and Jeffrey is amazing, and a good person too. I guess it’s “hardly out of the way”. Really, I’m giving this my personal recommendation. These guys don’t come to Salem enough. Another Pick of the Evening.

The Lobster Shanty has Lee Harvey at 8 to 11PM tonight.

The Barbara Road Band are at Vics Boathouse

Rockafellas has Mugsy

Sunday, November 11

Sunday/Funday is the weekly jam at Brodie’s Seaport Café, starting around 4:15.  I’m putting this together early this week, so I don’t have info on special guests yet. This weekly event, hosted by the amazing Steve Peabody (PBD) and Chris Fitz is always my Pick of the  Afternoon.

O’Neill’s has their weekly Irish Session starting around 4 today. Bring the kids. It’s that kind of show.

Steve Spungin is the featured artist at Howling Wolf tonight.

Cap’ts has Jazz Brunch at noon. Peter Kostopolous is on the bill.

Ross Livermore, Paul Dumas and Neil Taylor are at Vic’s Boathouse, 6-9PM

Monday, November 12

Dominic Frizzi hosts the weekly open mic tonight at In a Pigs Eye.

Wednesday, November 14

Brodie’s Seaport Café is featuring Jazz every Wednesday with Zach Bridges and friends.

In a Pig’s Eye has Coffee House with Julie Dougherty listed for this evening

Shows you may have missed:

I had to venture out to see the ghosts and goblins on Halloween night and made my way over to Brodie’s Seaport Café, to hear the wonderful duo of Jim and Roze from The Merj. These guys just make me happy, AND give me happy feet.

Dave Bailin and the Bailouts, my Pick of the Evening last Thursday, did not disappoint. I caught the entire show and it was worth all the effort. I’m working hard for you, people.

Getting back to town late Saturday, Pam and I stopped in to Seaport Café to hear Lois Lane and the Daily Planets. Lois plays all over but this is the first time I have heard her. Real cool soul/funk band. I think she’s at Howling Wolf later this month, where I hope to see her again.

The weekly Sunday/Funday was excellent last week. No surprise there. Lots of the peeps I know, that show every week, and for good reason. If you haven’t caught this show, you are missing out. it’s my pick of the afternoon EVERY WEEK.

I followed that, going down to The Pig for another Henley show. As I said earlier, we have survived in Salem and live music is THRIVING. Great show guys.

This list was put together with much help from STANSLIST. See his site here:  http://www.stanslist.com  Thanks Stan.

Please excuse any incorrect spelling and omissions.

Go out and listen to some great LIVE music in the wonderful, strange, hip town of Salem.

And tip your bartenders and servers.

And always check with the venue as times and schedules change. (and I sometimes mess up)

Hope to see you out there!

Today’s picture is Keith Broderick, relaxing this past July at the North Atlantic Blues Fest in Rockland, Maine. Looking good Keith.
