Friday, December 28

The Weekly Blues Jam at In a Pigs Eye is at 4PM. This is some of the most fun you can have in town. It’s always good music and a great crowd. And at 9PM, Peter Fedele and Matt Pert take the stage to continue the fun into the wee hours. You know, I had Peter and Matt playing here last Friday and that was wrong. I’m surprised no one called me on it. But they will be there tonight.

Gracie Curran brings her brand of blues down to Brodie’s Seaport Café.  Gracie is sure to make you smile and dance. Don’t miss this talented, entertaining crooner.

The Lobster Shanty has their house band Vein tonight. The countdown continues as Le’ Shant fast approaches their yearly shutdown in just 3 weeks.

Rockafella’s has Bail Out Boston.

The Village Tavern has Cool Change.  These guys seem to be the house band here. They are playing a lot and with good reason. Check them out.

80’s Reunion Band is playing at Finz.

Howling Wolf is featuring Release the Hounds

Gulu Gulu has Force of Will and Friends tonight.

43 Church has Qwill with the Soul Review Project

The Lobster Shanty has Julie Dougherty. Julie is fresh off her 30th annual performance down at the Hawthorne Hotel. I really love that she continues this Christmas tradition. We are blessed to have her so come on out and show some support.

One 17 are at Vics Boathouse.

Gulu Gulu has Calamus

Rockafellas has Lucky 13

The Village Tavern has The Girls Night Out Quartet. I wanted to hear this band last week but didn’t make it because of holidays, family, etc. I want to catch them this week mostly cus I love the name. I’ll let you know---

Mamadou is at Brodies Seaport Café.

One of my Fave’s, the Erinn (2N) Brown Band play 43 Church tonight.

Oh boy. Vein are playing down at Howling Wolf tonight. I’m sure I can get Pam out to hear these guys. Expect the full band tonight.

Cap’ts has Jazz Brunch at noon. Peter Kostopolous is on the bill.

In a Pigs Eye has Eric Reardon and Friends to close out the weekend nicely for you.

Monday, December 31. Amateur Night

There are quite a few NYE events around. Some charge a door, others do not. Let’s take a look

Vic’s Boathouse is hosting a DJ party with apps, champagne toast. It’s Free

Village Tavern are having Cool Change help ring in the new.

Rockafellas has DJ Carla D upstairs and  Midnight Goggles downstairs.

The Lobster Shanty are hosting their annual New Year’s Pajama Party. Put on your “special” evening wear and come on down. It’s always an interesting crowd at Le’ Shant. And It’s FREE.

Gulu Gulu have Black Dog Brother starting around 8. And it’s FREE.

Finz is continuing their multi day new Year’s celebration, tonight with a special section DJ, dancing and special menu. My info doesn’t mention a door charge.

43 Church New Year’s Eve Party is called Past and Future. BIG LINEUP!  Qwill, The Dejas, Cilla Bonnie, Sarah Seminski with guest performances by Christine Baze and Jacyn Tremblay. WOW! This has me thinking. Some of my favorite local ladies are performing here tonight. Door is $20

Shows you may have missed:

I missed a few shows this week cus of my Santa gigs, but I did get out for “a few”

Dave Bailin and Spike Emerson rocked the house at The Lobster Shanty last Thursday. After the show, poor Dave had to hit the road to spend the end of year in the Florida Keys. See you on the first, Dave.

We did get down to Finz to see/hear one of my favorite duo’s, Bird Mancini. They are such a fun couple and a lot of the crowd was, like me, there to hear the band. Great show guys.

I had heard through the grapevine that Murphy’s was returning with live music on Saturday afternoons but no details about who. I was pleasantly surprised to see Roze and Jim from The Merj was the entertainment. It didn’t matter to me that I had already planned to see them at The Seaport later with the full band. I can’t get too much of these guys. I hope Murphy’s continue with this series but they have to do some advertising. Let’s get more people in for this great show.

Oh yeah, The Merj full band was Killa later Saturday evening at Seaport. Kinda makes me “Wish I was a Fisherman”

Julie Dougherty hosted her 30th annual Christmas Carol Sing at Hawthorne Hotel on Christmas Eve. If you missed this show, it’s not too early to plan for next Christmas Eve. It’s a real cool family party.

This list was put together with much help from STANSLIST. See his site here:  http://www.stanslist.com  Thanks Stan.

Please excuse any incorrect spelling and omissions.

Go out and listen to some great LIVE music in the wonderful, strange, hip town of Salem.

And tip your bartenders and servers.

And always check with the venue as times and schedules change. (and I sometimes mess up)

Hope to see you out there!

Today’s picture is taken at last summer’s North Atlantic Blues Fest. This “sharp Dressed Man” is Salem’s (and my) own Keith Broderick. Looking cool man.
