Night Time is the Right Time---

random musings on the Salem music scene this week.

Have You Heard---

Just my opinion but I think the best bets for live music in Salem in the coming week are right here.

Thursday, june 7

I have to mention here, today is the birthday for the lovely, beautiful Pam Broderick. Thank you for loving me and putting up with me and my crazy family and friends. Happy Birthday, My love.

No, I’m not telling her age. I might be dumb but I’m not STUPID. Let’s just say I robbed the cradle.

System Soul returns to Howling Wolf.

And at Pigs Eye, there is Dennis Brenner. I wonder if he is related to Salem’s music man, Terry?

Uke Joint with Jeff Buckridge are at Seaport Café.  These guys have played around and are an interesting sound. Give them a listen.

Ditto is at Greenland Café.

Scratch Kitchen has Open Mic every Thursday, thou they haven’t updated their list for June. This place has a cool vibe and great food too. Check them out.

Gulu Gulu has Meg Lynch

Finz is featuring Paul Speidel

Vics Station is hosting their weekly open mic with Nick Consone

Live music continues at the Black Lobster, tonight featuring Big Dog.

Friday, June 8

Dave Babcock kicks it out, rocking the airways at SSU’s WMWM, 91.7 on your radio and online from 4-7 each Friday. Give Dave a listen. He’s sure to play something you like but never heard. Great start to the weekend

O’Neill’s has Irish Session from 6-9PM tonight and every Friday.

The weekly blues jam at In a Pigs Eye. Start time is around 4:15. Another great way to start the weekend.  Get there early!!!

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! The Lobster Shanty has their house band Vein tonight and every Friday night. Always a great show. Stop by for a listen. I hope summer returns so we can sit outside.

Groove Cats are at Finz tonight.

Seaport Cafe is featuring The Transisters tonight.

The popular nightspot Rockafellas has The Lisa Love Experience.  Always a fun place to kick it out on the dance floor. And they have outside seating to rest from all the fancy footwork you’ve been doing

The Black Lobster has North Shore Roots. This is a great place for a band outside, on the beautiful, historic North River.

Tonight, Gulu Gulu has the Doctors Fox. Help me Doctor.

Uke Joint with Jeff Buckridge is in town again tonight, playing Howling Wolf this time. Do you know they have outside seating too? I know some folks who like to sit outside and heckle passers by. They are harmless, just having fun. You know who you are, you CORDWANGERS!

43 Church has North Shore Acoustic Project returning to this elegant room. Could be my last stop on my way home. It’s hardly out of the way.

Saturday, June 9

The Jackleg Preachers rock the house at Murphy’s today. Show starts early, around 4:15. This is a great music room and a great start to your Saturday evening. And Murphys has outside seating too.

O’Neill’s has Irish music from 6-9PM tonight and every Saturday.

Jah-N-I is at In Pigs Eye tonight. Reggae I think.

The Lobster Shanty has Black Dog Brother tonight. Come on by for a listen.  Always a good show at the Shanty.

Seaport Café has The Darlings, the country rock, fun band. And they are Terry Brenner recommended.

Black Lobster has For Pete’s Sake

Rockafellas has Bail Out Boston for your dancing pleasure.

Groove Stone is at Vics Station

Howling Wolf has Adam Payne tonight. They also now have a full liquor license and great food.

Sunday, June 10

Sunday/Funday is the weekly jam at Seaport Café, starting around 4:00. This week’s special guests are Sarah Seminski and Eric Reardon This is my favorite show in town every week, and I can’t make this one. Work, Work Work. Don’t miss this duo. Some of best young talent to come down the road

O’neills has their weekly Irish Session starting around 4 today. Bring the kids. It’s that kind of show. And Guinness makes you strong

Ervin Dhimo finish you off at In a Pigs Eye tonight. Always a fun time at the pig.

And Black Lobster continues the summer series with Soul Rebel Project. a great outside venue and Sunday is predicted to be the best weather of the weekend. I WILL make this show!!!

Howling Wolf has Steve Spungin

Ross Livermore, Paul Dumas and Neil Taylor return to Vics Station

Monday, June 11

Britannica return to Greenland Café tonight. Fun live band playing the songs you know.

In a Pigs Eye has Open Mic Night every Monday night, with a different host every week. Check it out. This week’s host is Domenic.

Wednesday, June 13 Every Wednesday, Rockafella’s hosts a Latin Salsa Dance Party. Come by at 8 and learn some moves. There is a paid admission for dance lessons but a great way to meet similar minded people. The party continues after 10 with you using all the moves you have learned. Again, bring your dancing shoes. Chris will be behind the bar mixing drinks and harassing ME. Hope for a nice night for outside seating too.

Shows you may have missed

I had a pleasant surprise at In a Pigs Eye last Thursday, when I heard Juke Joint Five, an energetic, 5 piece band putting down some real blues numbers. Sax, guitar, bass, drums and and great female lead singer. The sax player was all over the place, on the floor, everywhere.     I thought he might follow me into the men’s room. I don’t believe they have played Salem as a band before but separately. I’ll be watching for them in the future.

Sunday night, I was back at the Pig (surprised?) to hear Henley’s band. There was a new guy who sat in for a few songs and blew me away on trombone, one of my favorite instruments. I had to ask him who he was as I had never seen him before. A young guy named Brian Cogger. Remember that name.

I want to give some credit here. This list was put together with much help from STANSLIST.COM and also LINDASLIST. Thanks Stan and Linda.

Please excuse any incorrect spelling and omissions.

Go out and listen to some great LIVE music in the wonderful, hip town of Salem.

And tip your bartenders and servers.

And always check with the venue as times and schedules change. (and I sometimes mess up)

Hope to see you out there!

Today’s picture was taken at Gregfest a few weeks back, at Seaport Café,  showing the festive crowd enjoying the show.
