Live Music in Salem the Week of May 3-9

April showers bring May flowers? lets hope so

Have You Heard---

Just my opinion but I think the best bets for live music in Salem in the coming week are right here.

 Thursday, May 3

Find out what's happening in Salemwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Finz has Pete Massa tonight, playing classic hits

Vics Boathouse is hosting the weekly Open Mic with Nick Consone.  Bring your instrument and show them what you got . Check it out.

OK OK OK is at Howling Wolf tonight.  From what I hear, they are OK

And at Pigs Eye, there is Dave Bailin and the Bailouts . if you read this column, you know I love this band. My Pick of the Night.

Seaport Café has NORTH SHORE ACOUSTIC PROJECT playing tonight.

The Erinn Brown Band (Steve Peabody, (PBD) Alison Keslow, and '2N') is at Greenland Café. Looks like Alison might need a handle, just like PBD and 2N. I have to say, this is also My Pick of the Night.

I explained a few weeks back how to handle two great bands playing on the same evening, and I got  some feedback from one of the (now up to) 5 people who read this blog. It’s simple. Go to the venue that’s farthest from home, listen to the first set, then the other venue is hardly out of the way for the second set. SIMPLE AS THAT!

Scratch Kitchen has The Brad Byrd Duo tonight. If you find yourself here, you have to try the food. We Had brunch last Sunday and dinner a few weeks back. Both times it was exceptional. And they make their own BACON!! What doesn’t taste better with bacon?

Friday, May 4

Start your weekend out right by tuning in to Salem State Radio, WMWM 91.7 on your dial and on line from 4-7 each Friday, where Dave Babcock will be spinning the discs, bringing you his favorite mix of new and old tunes. When not spinning tunes on the radio, Dave can be found mixing cocktails and charming the rowdy regulars at The Lobster Shanty.

O’Neill’s has Irish music from 6-9PM tonight and every Friday.  Come and get your IRISH on!!

The weekly blues jam at In a Pigs Eye. Start time is around 4:15.  Get there early cus this is very popular. Standing room only at show time

Howling Wolf is featuring Reggae Night with Aaron Chase and Mike Mersha. Great to have some reggae back in town. YA MON!!!

The Lobster Shanty (I Love This Place!!!) has their house band Vein tonight and every Friday night. Stop by for a listen. I hear it may hit 70 degrees sometime today so hoping for some outside entertainment.

The Mystics are at Finz tonight.

Seaport has the always fun band THE MERJ tonight. Jim and Roze will have you both singing along and dancing, so be ready.

Saturday, May 5  Cinco de Mayo

The Jackleg Preachers are all electric at Murphy’s Jam almost every Saturday. A lot of the same great performers you hear at The Pig from Friday will join in. John Devine and Andrew Harney are regular contributors. Show starts early again, around 4:15. This is a great music room and a great start to your Saturday evening.

O’Neill’s has Irish music from 6-9PM tonight and every Saturday.

Sit Down Baby return to In a Pigs Eye tonight with their Juke Joint music.

Lee Harvey is at Lobster Shanty tonight. Google him and Lee Harvey Oswald is the first thing that pops up. WRONG. He is KILLA thou.

Cinco De Mayo is celebrated in fine style tonight at Howling Wolf, with Giancarlo Buscaglia. The Wolf just got their full liquor license, so stop in for a marguerita.

Did you see the full page write-up on the Wolf in Wednesdays Boston Globe? They’re famous now. Good job guys (and gals)

Seaport Café has the incredible, hardworking LISA MARIE AND FRIENDS tonight. Check her website, I don’t think she has any time off at all. And I think she lives mid-state somewhere.

Sunday, May 6

Sunday/Funday is the weekly jam at Seaport Café, starting around 4:15. Steve Peabody (PBD) and guests are here to entertain you for this end of weekend spectacular. This is my favorite weekly show.  A wide variety of talented musicians perform here and the crowd LOVES it. You never know who may show up to perform.  This week, Special guest  JOHNNY BLUEHORN !!

For a change from bluesy rock, O’Neill’s runs an Irish Session every Sunday starting around 4ish. Bring the family because this is a kid-friendly event.

The Henley Douglas Jr Group is at In a Pigs Eye tonight. Henley and his band are something to see. If you’ve got it in you, this is sure to be a great show.

Monday, May 7

Delvis returns Greenland Café tonight.

In a Pigs Eye has Open Mic Night every Monday night, with a different host every week. Check it out.

Tuesday Salem needs to get some live entertainment for Tuesdays. Nothing special happens except the last Tuesday of the month, In a Pigs Eye hosts Comedy night. It’s the only dead night of the week.

Wednesday, May 9 Every Wednesday, Rockafella’s hosts a Latin Salsa Dance Party. Come by at 8 and learn some moves. There is a paid admission for dance lessons but a great way to meet similar minded people. The party continues after 10 with you using all the moves you have learned. Again, bring your dancing shoes.

Also, starting today, Wednesday the 9th is the weeklong celebration of that well known CORDWANGER, Mike Broderick’s 30th birthday. Be sure to give him B’day wishes when you see him around this week. And don’t worry, we won’t let him drive.  If he’s 30, how old does that make me?????

I want to give some credit here. This list was put together with much help from STANSLIST.COM and also LINDASLIST on Facebook. Thanks Stan and Linda.

Please excuse any incorrect spelling and omissions.

Go out and listen to some great LIVE music.

And tip your bartenders and servers.

And always check with the venue as times and schedules change. (and  I sometimes mess up)

Hope to see you out there!

Today’s picture is a RARE shot of Nancy Weston, the original Adventure Girl, with a drink in hand. That hardly ever happens. Only on days that end in “Y”
