Friday, March 2
The Jackleg Preachers perform their weekly acoustic blues jam at . Start time is around 4:15 p.m. I can’t say enough about these guys. They fill the house week after week. Get there early or be ready to stand, which isn’t so bad either. The band is always inviting up talented musicians from the audience. Come once and you will become a regular.
MERJ will be at Seaport Café. This fun, talented band plays anything from rock, blues, country, and Irish with everything in between. Roze and Jim are also regulars at the Irish Session at on Sundays. Be prepared to DANCE!!!
The multi talented Brian Maes will perform at , formerly The Lyceum.
Jeff Savlon returns to Gulu Gulu tonight for some folksy, bluesy fun. Get there early because this place is always packed.
Saturday, March 3
The Jackleg Preachers are all electric at almost every Saturday. Expect a lot of the same great performers you hear at The Pig from Friday, only amplified. Show starts early again, around 4:15 p.m. This is a great music room and a great take.
Henley Douglas and Friends will be at the Seaport Café. Henley is an amazing sax player and a fun performer.
Some possible conflicting info coming from . The Lee Hawkins Band and also Big Ol Dirty Bucket are shown on their website for tonight. Maybe they will both be there. that would be very cool. Site says show is 9-12 p.m.
Bird Mancini will be at In a Pig's Eye this evening. Formerly a 5 or 6 piece band, they now consist of Ruby Bird on vocals, accordion and assorted other percussion and wind instruments and Billy Mancini on acoustic guitar and vocals. (I bought a recorder for my wife after hearing Ruby play one). From their website “eclectic and at times a bit psychedelic acoustic rock pop style with lush vocal arrangements” For just two people, they make a lot of noise. GREAT NOISE. Who else would play the George Harrison's “Apple Scruffs”
The house band from The , VEIN, will perform tonight at . Their latest CD will be out soon. Hopefully they will have some available for purchase at the show.
Sunday, March 4
Sunday/Funday is the weekly jam at Seaport Café, starting around 4:15 p.m. Chris Fitz and Steve Peabody (PBD) and other guests are here to entertain you for this end of weekend spectacular. This is my favorite weekly show in town. Bring your dancing shoes.
If your taste runs to Irish folk, O’Neill’s runs an Irish Session starting around 4ish. Bring the family because this is a kid-friendly event. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to see some kid’s step dancing. O’Neill’s also does the Irish session on Friday and Saturday.
Erinn Brown will be performing (solo I think) at Salem Cinema from 4-4:30 p.m., prior to the start of the movie STORIES FROM LAKKA BEACH. I love seeing and hearing Erinn. Show support for Salem Cinema and its film festival. Other films from the fest playing here as well as the PEM and The National Park Center. Check the cinema web site for more info.
Monday, March 5
Open mic at In a Pig's Eye with Julie Dougherty — this is your chance at fame. If you have musical talent come down and get on the list. Or just come by and enjoy.
Wednesday, March 7
Every Wednesday, hosts a Latin Salsa Dance Party. Come by at 8 and learn some moves. This is a paid admission but a great way to meet similar minded people. The party continues after 10 p.m. with you using all the moves you have learned. Again, bring your dancing shoes.
