Splash Pad Plans to be Presented, Feedback Sought

A splash pad is planned for a park in The Point neighborhood.

The plans for a splash pad and other improvements at Mary Jane Lee Park will be unveiled and discussed at the Point Neighborhood Association meeting on Monday night.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. and at 6:45 p.m., Naomi Cottrell of Michelle Crowley Landscape Architecture will present the splash pad plans and solicit feedback on its design, as well as other improvements including trees and benches at the park, which is at Palmer and Prince streets.

A splash pad in an area where children and families can cool off on hot summer day often described as a "mini-water park" with features such as mist sprays and water fountains.

Discussion by the architect will also include discussion about the project’s impact on the floodplain, plus the testing and remediation that may be needed for contaminated soils, according to an announcement from the city of Salem.

In April, the Salem News reported that the project will be funded by a $200,000 state grant, with no required local match.
