Salem Announces Hiring of Safe Routes to School Coordinator

Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll and John Pelletier, Mass in Motion Salem’s program coordinator, announced on Monday the hire of Salem resident, Jude Griffin, as the city’s new Safe Routes to School coordinator.

Griffin recently moved to Salem from Quincy and brings to the position over fifteen years of experience in nonprofit, governmental, and educational institutions.

“Jude has deep expertise in program management in the public health and environmental sectors,” Pelletier said in a release. “Her experience supporting multicultural and multilingual programs, building coalitions among diverse communities, working with schoolchildren on health and environmental programs, and leveraging the power of social media to build awareness and momentum will be invaluable as we move forward to increase the physical activity of Salem’s schoolchildren.”

Griffin will start this spring introducing herself to school and community stakeholders, including principals, physical education and health education teachers, nurses, community police officers, and parents. 

She will support the City’s participation in National Walk/Bike to School Day on May 7, 2014 and be conducting surveys on how Salem schoolchildren currently get to and from school. She welcomes input and questions from all interested parties at jgriffin@salem.com.
