Salem City Council to Consider Dodge Street Development

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.

Today is Thursday, July 18, and here are the five things you need to know:

. You'll want to be prepared for some wet weather today. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect showers, thunderstorms and a high near 93. Tonight should be cloudy, with a low near 72. (sunrise, 8:16 a.m.; low tide, 1:27 p.m.; high tide, 7:44 p.m.; sunset, 8:16 p.m.)

. At their meeting at City Hall tonight, Salem city councilors will conclude a public hearing regarding a proposed $45 million development on Dodge Street. The Somerville-based developer RCG has plans to build a six-story building, which is expected to house a hotel, retail spaces, offices and housing units.

. Unfortunately, recent sequestration cuts are having an impact on summer in Salem. The Friendship of Salem and the Salem Maritime National Historic Site will be available less often to tourists this summer season and park officials are preparing for further cuts moving forward.
