Whether you're in favor of or against Footprint Power's plan to convert the Salem Harbor Power Station into a state-of-the-art natural gas plant, there will be a place for you to voice your opinion in Salem Saturday afternoon.

GASPP or Grassroots Against Another Salem Power Plant and Sustainable North Shore 350MA will host a 'Build Only the Best' Rally and Reception Saturday from 2 to 4:30 p.m. The event will begin at the Salem Common at 2 p.m. and a reception will follow at the Hawthorne Hotel with music from The Blue Hotel

Meanwhile, another group will gather for a counter-rally - Only the Best for Salem: Support the New Power Plant - at the Salem Common bandstand at 1:30 p.m. Those rallying in favor of the new plant will then "parade" to the plant, according to the group's Facebook page.

Will you be heading down to take part in either of the rallies on Saturday? Which side of the issue will you be on?

The geothermal water used runs three United Technology Corporation (UTC) binary power plants at only 165°F. Continuous and clean.

I don't understand this process. The taxpayers of Salem should have a vote to see exactly what WE want for our city. That is what has been going on in other communities over the casino issue. I don't really care what Peabody or Beverly or Marblehead people think. Look at the damage the Peabody leather industry did to Salem harbor over many years. This doesn't even come close to that and we need clean power. Build the plant so we can get some tax revenue and improve the rest of the area.

If you want a say we could convert to a town. Framingham has more than 50% more people and is run as a town.
