Missing Dog Bella is Safe; Pooch Captured in South Peabody

Granite State Dog Recovery volunteers have been working for days to track down a dog that went missing in Peabody last week.

Bella, a black and white dog, went missing in the Centennial Park area last week. Volunteers set up cameras and feed stations in hopes of tracking and ultimately capturing the scared dog.

Volunteers asked the public not to chase Bella or yell her name because the dog is skittish. They were afraid she might run out onto Lynn Street and get hit by a car.

Volunteers were out Thursday morning checking the feed stations and cameras when the calls began rolling in. Bella was spotted near Lynnfield Street. People were yelling Bella’s name, which caused the scared pooch to run across Lynnfield Street, nearly getting hit by a car.

Bella Travaglini, a North Shore dog advocate and volunteer, responded to the area. She sat on the ground with some food in hopes of luring the pooch.

The dog approached her, but Travaglini was unable to corral the dog.

Peabody resident Kristin Erickson, another volunteer, also sat nearby on the ground with food. Erickson also had a snappy snare, a which is used to corral lose pups and other animals.  

Erickson patiently threw more food to the dog and drew Bella closer until she was able to place the snappy snare around the dog’s neck.

The volunteers alerted Bella’s family, who are headed from upstate New York to pick up the dog.

A happy ending that would not have been possible without the work of volunteers and help from the community who kept volunteers alerted to Bella’s locations.
