MBTA Project Underway: Kiss-n-Ride Zones in Effect

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.

Today is Tuesday, July 23, and here are the five things you need to know

1. You'll want to be prepared for some wet weather today. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect showers, thunderstorms and a high near 75. Tonight should be cloudy, with a low around 67. (sunrise, 5:26 a.m.; high tide, 12:14 p.m.; low tide, 6:12 p.m; sunset, 8:12 p.m.)

2. The parking lot at the Salem MBTA station is now closed and will remain closed while the city's new station is constructed. We published a post Tuesday afternoon explaining the new "Kiss and Ride Zones" on Bridge Street. For full details about the project, Click Here.

3. The Salem Board of Health will meet tonight at the City Hall Annex on Washington Street. The meeting, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., will feature the introduction of new member Dr. Shama Alam, according to the posted agenda.

4. In case you didn't hear, Gordon College recently turned the city's historic Pioneer Village site over to the city of Salem. The college will stop running the living history museum in Salem in favor of concentrating its resources on managing that city's Old Town Hall.

5. Today in History: On July 23, 1995, Comet Hale-Bopp was discovered and it was visible to the naked eye nearly a year later.
