Students and staff of the Northshore Education Consortium’s Kevin O’Grady School in Beverly celebrated the season with a karaoke of holiday music. Students sang along – some sang solos -- and played a variety of shakers and other instruments that were purchased with a grant from Ernie Boch Jr.’s Music Drives Us Foundation. Students sang along with words and images projected on a large monitor and other sound equipment donated by the foundation, including an iPad, mixer, speakers, and microphones. Some students even got up and danced.
The Northshore Education Consortium is the largest provider of educational services for students with severe special needs in the North of Boston region. The Kevin O’Grady School serves 125 students, ages 3 to 22, who have significant developmental delays, including pervasive developmental disorders, Autism, multiple handicaps, visual impairments and medical fragility. Some students are nonverbal, but respond to and greatly enjoy music.
